No start issue traced to ECU---do you have a spare?
Ok, I have a 2.5 running NA in a 91 wagon...the 92 ECU I had went up in smoke and I am having a devil of a time finding a replacement. The part number is a 22611 AA931F and it is no longer available through the dealer and I sent it off to have it tested and repaired to this place called module exper...

Latest recommendations on Timing Belts?
I am, due to a set of unfortunate circumstances, about to have to go into probably 3 different engines in my driveway in fairly short order, and given the hassle of doing the timing belt replacement, will want to do that while I am in there. Is there a recommended brand other than OEM that is known ...

Re: How should I build this giant cube!? Build recommendatio
You mentioned a couple of things in your post that make what I am about to say relevant if you havent already stuck another engine in the car. Subaru now offers 3 yr/36k mile warranty on their factory short blocks if you can swing that financially. Seems like a great way to go for a daily driver. I ...

You have no idea...its not over yet either...still have to get another powerplant in the car and running and sorted out. I expected to have the car finished bodywork and all before now...and I dont even have it running...and I have spent virtually every dime I had set aside to do the project and som...

Thanks for that Mike...I will probably order the short block tomorrow then based on what you said. And you suggest using OEM head gaskets as opposed to something aftermarket?

So my hybrid build will be coming out soon, and figured I should look at cam options while there's easy access. What options are there out their for cams? I know EJ20k cams fit, but they aren't too easy to track down. Tomei? Anyone else make them? I can offer another solution I didnt see offered he...

Re: ej25d swap question
you could do a stroked 2.2 and end up with a 2.3 and for a wider powerband, bolt up a set of DOHC heads...that would make for an interesting and fun engine. That way you keep the 2.2 goodness...

question on the head gasket....I read on NAUSIOC some of these guys that are building really high power 400 hp motors and up are using pure copper head gaskets...any experience with those and are they recommended?

An Engine Autopsy...and what led up to it
Those of you who have read some of my threads may have done so out of curiosity, and then laughed at what I had to say or the questions I asked because I was truly wet behind the ears, a real newbie in terms of my intimate subaru knowledge. That is changing and like most of us, some of what I have l...

The 98 EJ25D that I struggled so much to get running in my 91 wagon is dead...the autopsy is essentially complete. I will create an exhaustive thread about its failure and the symptoms and diagnosis and what it took to get to the place where the engine had to come out and be disassembled and if poss...

Re: Need help with figuring compression ratio
Many thanks for that Peter...I am assuming that since 10:1 was stock for a regular gas engine that should work just fine. I was afraid I would end up with a much lower than 9:1 compression with the sti block. That actually surprises me that it is that high. Anyway, those are good numbers to work wit...

Re: Need help with figuring compression ratio
can someone please weigh in on this...approximate comp ratio would help...especially using the sti short block and ej 25d heads from a 98 engine...I have no idea what that combo would give me compression wise, but certainly it should be a pretty bulletproof engine in NA form. Can someone please help...

Need help with figuring compression ratio
Hi guys, so it is beginning to look like WRXish might be getting its 3rd engine in less than 18 months...I have a couple of options for how to approach it. I have a nice set of EJ25D heads that I definitely want to reuse on whatever engine gets built. So now the only thing left to decide is what to ...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?
That's great advice Josh. Thanks for all your help. After all the feedback, I think I may just slap 22T heads on a stock 22E, run 5 PSI boost, and call it a day. A full rebuild appears excessive for my modest goals. If the engine blows, then it blows and I'll have to rebuild. I'll have a higher com...

Re: knock sensor desensitization for forged pistons?
Ok, this is why this forum is such a valuable resource to me. Im running forged internals in an NA ej25d and the knock sensor is already mounted at the back of the block near the bell housing in the factory location. This begs the question if it would be worthwhile to move it forward and mount it in...

Re: Help with headlight beam pattern/aim
I feel your pain there...the area I live in has more deer than people I think...and what I did to my 91 headlights was go to led conversion bulbs which are much better on low beam where most of us drive most of the time. I of course polished up the plastic lenses too in an effort to get the best pos...
