Polymer chemistry is a little complex for this forum....

For the questions - how do they make them scratch resistant - polycarbonate is a classification of a polymer dominated by linked carbonate groups. The bulk material properties can be altered by changing what other groups are used and how and how much cross linking between chains is done. As with met...

Why not do what everyone does with their mistakes... eBay

I think you'll have more work than its worth so if the speakers don't fit, sell them on eBay and buy some that will fit. It looks like what you want (TS-G1641R is a 2-way) goes for $40 at WalMart, and what you have, Pioneer 4-ways, sell for $50 and up + shipping on eBay. You should come out a few bu...

Headlights don't emit enough UV to yellow

The headlights do *not* emit enough UV light to yellow the polycarbonate. Incandescent lamp filaments have almost no emission in that range. The soft quartz capsule for the filament doesn't pass UV. The plasic coating on the relector at the rear of the assembly doesn't pass UV. The underlying reason...

Buy rebuilt parts...

The CV joints are in the prop shafts (half shafts, half axles). If you have AWD (4WD) then you have 4 of these and no other axles. Rebuilds are about $40 or $50 each at Auto Zone or Advanced etc. after you turn in the dead ones. If you've done it before the job takes 45 minutes per axle, but 3 times...

It's not just you...

My two '91 Legacys have the same problem. The part is destined to fail every 7 or 8 years, and rather pricey. I went to a junkyard a few years ago and checked 8 or 10 of the cars and only found 1 that was still working, and it failed within 6 months. The ECU keeps track of two things related to the ...

Its probably just stained...

The fuel pump sock is eventually stained by the fuel and the built-in additives to a light reddish tan. The fuel system shunts almost all of the fuel pump output back to the tank. In effect, while the car is on it is always stirring and filtering the contents of the fuel tank. The insides of the tan...

the weight was wrong (just flogging a dead horse-power calc)

the preceeding calculations computed the weight in kg incorrectly.

kg = lb / 2.2

the weight should have been 1355.5 kg

the computed kinetic energy and power are overstated by a factor of 4.84
