Re: Power steering pump problem. Fixed, but still confused
Will try to take some pics this weekend. I eliminated the alternator as a cause since, when using the crank pulley as a reference, the alternator is aligned. I haven't had the power steering pump bracket off in a long time but I verified that the mounting bolts were tight. I doubt the bracket bolt h...

Power steering pump problem. Fixed, but still confused
Long story, attempting to be short: Heard a squeak which gradually got louder and more frequent Eventually investigated to find a power steering pump leaking, alternator covered in serpentine belt debris. Replaced power steering pump with rebuilt pump(ac delco) Squeak persisted and the rebuilt pump ...

Re: Flashing Check Engine Light, No drivability issues
Thanks for the reply. The codes didn't pop up today. But i'll write down the freeze data the next time it happens. General conditions are around 3000 RPM, and maybe 10%-15% throttle. Spark plugs were done last summer. Wires... it's been a while. From some of the reading I've been doing on misfire de...

Flashing Check Engine Light, No drivability issues
As the subject says, I have been recently getting a flashing check engine light, usually at highway speeds of around 60-70, when decelerating to a lower speed, but with my foot still partially on the throttle. The flashing light is never accompanied by any change in engine behavior, vibration, rough...

Re: Green coolant turns to Orange-with solution
Took the pump apart, down to the individual ball bearings. There was plenty of grease in the bearings, although there was a trail of grease leaking out of the front seal down the housing which is a possible indication of a slight coolant leak. This pump uses a duplex ball bearing. The bearing closes...

Re: Green coolant turns to Orange-with solution
Well, finally figured it out. Although the above post I made is true with regard to voltage in the coolant, and my missing ground, it did not cause the orange color in the coolant.. I just finished replacing my water pump which failed after 30,000 miles. The failure was not catastrophic. I heard a k...

Green coolant turns to Orange-with solution
As the subject says, I noticed that the coolant in my overflow tank would, over time, turn from the typical green to darker orange. This was despite my repeated efforts to flush the overflow tank. I had removed the radiator cap several times to observe the color of the coolant in the radiator, which...

Re: Strange Wheel Noise
Well, I replaced the CV axle before I read your post. The good news is the noise is gone. I still can't figure out what would make that kind of noise and how it relates to any CV hardware. Maybe something with the boot....

Re: Strange Wheel Noise
Haha. Yea, It probably won't go away but I try to be optimistic..... I have 14" Stock steel wheels with hubcaps. CV boots look fine. Both front axles are new. The noise sounds like you're driving slowly on a flat tire with a higher pitched squeak that seems to occur once per wheel revolution. O...

Re: Strange Wheel Noise
Another Update: I had to take one more shot at fixing it since I was able to correlate the noise with occuring more frequently when the brakes are hot. The noise does not go away after having applied and released the brakes, or is related to the applied braking force. It just kind of appears as the ...

Re: Strange Wheel Noise
Update: I did some troubleshooting today. It seems like the noise appears after braking relatively hard. Then the noise will go away as speed above 20MPH is reached. It is almost as though something is sticking, but I removed and reinstalled both passenger side wheels, brake calipers, pads and rotor...

Re: Strange Wheel Noise
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the new Axle is from autozone. Although, with my understanding of the internals of a CV joint and how it operates, I'm having trouble picturing how it can be the source of the sound I am describing

Strange Wheel Noise
I recently noticed a noise coming from my right front wheel when driving at speeds of ~25MPH and below. It sounds like combination of a squeaking serpentine belt and the sound of driving on a flat tire. This noise will occur in gear, out of gear, brakes applied or unapplied, turning, or going straig...

Well, I replaced the clutch fork boot over the weekend and inspected inside the clutch. TO bearing looks fine. Pressure plate fingers have normal wear and a normal contact pattern. I took a brush and re-greased as many of the contact poitns as I could with some hi-temp grease. The chirp seems to hav...

Sadly, the parts are not OEM, although if I were to do the job today(put the clutch in over a year ago), based on what I now know, they would be OEM parts. In any case I was picking up some parts at the Subaru dealership (noticed that the clutch fork boot was torn) and I asked a mechanic about the s...

Well, I investigated a bit more. Most of what I said in the above post was wrong. I adjusted the clutch pedal free play to ensure it was in spec (at the time of my previous post, it was too tight) With correct clutch pedal free play, the throw out bearing is still in constant contact with the pressu...

Throw out bearing chirps when clutch is engaged
As the subject states, when the clutch pedal is up, at idle, there is a chirping sound coming from the throw-out bearing at approximately one chirp per revolution of the engine. This sound goes away if I depress the clutch pedal as little as .25 inches. My theory is that the throw-out bearing is bar...

My Knock Sensor Experience/Advice
Ever since I bought my Subaru, it has had very mild drivability problems in the lower engine RPM range such as light bucking during deceleration in gear and an occasional knock in 2nd gear under load at low RPMs. I make it sound much worse than it actually was. But having never driven a Subaru befor...

Problem Solved: Finally took the time to look at this, as the last weekend of rain pushed me over the edge. I took off the windshield wipers and cowl, and then removed the blower motor so I could see both sides of the air inlet. Long story short, one of the holes in the car for the clips that holdes...

Alright, slow progress. Still been too lazy to take a close look at the problem but after a night of heavy rain, I got in the car, turned on the blower motor, and observed water leaking out of the connection between the blower motor and fresh air supply tube. So I will eventually remove the cowl and...

I still haven't had a chance to really investigate this, but from having replace my expansion valve while working on the A/C system, I can see that the gap between the heater section and condensor section is not designed to be water tight(correct me if i'm wrong). Theres just foam pieces between the...

Leak from heater box in the rain
Hey, Wondering if I can get some troubleshooting tips for this strange problem. Whenever it rains, water is leaking into the car from what looks like the heater box and into/under the passenger side front carpet. More specifically, it looks like water is coming out of the gap in the heater box where...
