Re: How do you get rid of the park lock automatic?

Try swapping the control unit a black plastic box located near the brake pedal. Follow the wires from the brake pedal switch. I fought a similar problem on my 93SS. I changed the solenoid on the console and finally figured out it was the controller.

For the "flare" there is a brake band adjuster on the upper left of the transmission. If you look behind the cable connectors on the top of transmission you will see a locknut with a small square bolt. This locknut and bolt allow you to adjust the brake band. You might try cleaning the bol...

Thanks, I'll look for that connector.

On the plus side, I figured out why the compressor was always on. The PO decided to ground a wire coming from the thermistor that sensed the evaporator coil temp.

Josh, do you have a location or picture of the shorting connector? I found what I think may be the connector, but the same connector on my other two cars is unplugged as well. (the ac works fine on those cars). I also changed out all four relays and the AC relay under the dash with no change, the co...

I made sure it was a controller out of a 90 MY with the yellow connector. The car has a Calsonic system and that is what I replaced the defective compressor with.

Thanks, I will look into the connector and make sure it is shorted.

gremlins with AC system

Picked up a 90 Legacy L wagon 5 speed. The compressor was shot it was replaced, I evacuated the system and recharged. Now for the weirdness. I also resoldered the connector on the HVAC controller only to discover a broken defroster button. Got a serviceable unit from the pick n pull that fixed all t...

Keep an eye on your coolant level and temp gauge as well. I had a '91 that would knock under load and it was a blown headgasket. Didn't figure it out until the car started heating up and I figured out the HG was literally overpressuring the coolant system and blowing the coolant out. Kicker was it w...

ventilation system question

I did a search, but can't seem to find the answer to this question. Where does the fresh air for the cabin ventilation system enter the car? I suspect it may be in the right fender but haven't had a chance to look. Why do I ask? We live in the mountains and have problems with chipmunks and mice. The...

simply put optical illusion and perspective. Your mind sees what it wants to see or thinks is right.

Google mc escher and perspective there will be lots more learned people than me explaining how it all works.

My 92 SS recently started "hiccuping" for lack of a better description. It turned out some water had accumulated in a spark plug well and was intermittently shorting out that wire. Usually this was happening when the engine was under load.

If you put a long screwdriver on one of the working injectors you should hear a discernible click, see if you hear the same clicking on the suspect injector. Then try unplugging the wire harness from the suspect injector and see if there is any change in the injector sound. You should also be able t...

knock fixed!

When I first got my 91SS it came with what ultimately turned out to be a broken piston ring land. After changing the piston there was a slight knock. I figured it was a skirt knock as it came and went. Recently on a cold start the thing was really knocking loud and I expected it was the beginning of...

My understanding was the stock location was on the block under the left rear runner of the intake manifold. Here is a picture thanks Josh! http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/injectors/DCP_2481.JPG My sensor is now on the block just behind the knock sensor connector in the pictu...

I had a bit of piston slap that it seemed to to be reading as a knock. I moved the sensor to a flat spot on the rear of the block just ahead of the bell housing. The sensor is bolted solidly to the block with no spacers. I have tried two sensors in the original location with the same result. The sym...

Congrats on the ATP, that is quite an achievement for a pilot. I was having erratic boost problems as well. By low boost, I assume you mean 8-9psi and at 5,000 ft you are probably seeing 10-11psi. This is normal behavior. I live at 5.000 and see 11-12psi. In the aviation world for turbocharged aircraft we use manifold pressure gauges instead of our boost/vacuum gauges. A MP gauge displays inches of mercur...

It is an easy conversion. Find a set of 90-94 struts from a wagon and it is a simple bolt on replacement. Note the position of the lower camber bolts on the front struts and you can even preserve your alignment. I just did this on my 93. If your wagon has ABS be careful around the ABS wires, they ar...

Josh, the parts books list a right and left side mount for model years 90-97. Then they go to the one piece mount. I am pretty sure the auto and manual mounts aren't interchangeable. I was curious if the newer WRX one piece mounts would work.

thanks
