Re: ECU Questions
It sounds like a marginal cam or crank sensor. They can cause strange starting behavior. I had a problem where my car would sometimes fail to start when hot. It was like it missed the first few engine revolutions and would flood out by the time it figured things out. Sometimes continuous cranking w...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Got the EGR valve off today. All of the EGR flange bolts snapped like butter, but oh well, this won't be going back onto the engine which is why I'd like to give it the middle finger. http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q131/Jessekrs123/EG33%20swap/101_1808.jpg Took the side timing covers off and fou...

Re: ECU Questions
When the car does not start, there is only an absence of spark. I've gone through extremely extensive testing. When testing the car when it would not start, there was fuel, timing and compression (obviously) but no spark. Tested out power and ground to both the igniter and coil pack and they were bo...

Re: ECU Questions
Wow, thanks a lot vrg, you're always so helpful. I have a good amount of spare coolant temp sensors on hand, new from the dealer. I've replaced them numerous times with no luck. At certain resistances (1020, 1080, 1180, 1280, 1380 ohms) the car loses spark for some reason. There is also a relation t...

ECU Questions
I bought an ECU a while back from somebody on here in hopes of fixing an intermittent cold start issue. In the case you do not know, I have tested every circuit under the sun, tested all grounds, everything checked out fine, so I figure it must be the ECU. Now here is my problem. My original ECU, PN...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Been a while since I posted anything so, I found some extra wires within my harness.
Those turned out just to be branched TPS wires that go to the TCU. Won't be needing those with a 5 speed.

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Got the SVX side of the harness completed today. Still a little messy, but once I merge the Legacy harness in there, everything gets wrapped right up and hopefully all goes well, she'll fire up with no problem. I am pretty confident everything is set, all needed SVX pins are accounted for, and they ...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Cool, happy to give what little help I can. I'm really excited about your swap project. CNC might be overkill for intake manifold spacers; simple hand tools might be enough for you to make a spacer from raw materials using a stock gasket as a guide. This guy makes Teflon spacers that way (which are...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Looking good! I'm getting excited! I wonder if those extra cooling fittings are to run coolant through the two throttle bodies. I sometimes use disposable rubber gloves to plug open holes on engines. Stuff them in -- or more than one, tied together, if necessary -- just the way you would a paper to...

Re: White smoke after tune up? Help!
If this has only been happening for a short time, I'd just give it more time. Yes, it very well could just need to burn crap off. Every time I do work like what you did I end up with some smoke for a little bit. It's probably just random bits of penetrating oil and stuff that gets into the engine a...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
That's correct. I am actually going to completely de-pin each ECU connector to untangle everything, get the wires nice and straight and then wrap it up in intervals and loom every wire group.vrg3 wrote:Wow. That is impressive. Are you just going to wrap it back up in some split loom tubing or something?

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Nice! I wonder if you could swap the guts of the SVX seat belt controller into the case of the Legacy one so it would mount up the same way. That is what I was thinking. The Legacy computer is a little easier to take apart than the SVX. The SVX computer is held together by metal clips, I'll have to...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Thanks for all of the advice fellas, I appreciate it a lot. I am pretty set on getting the harness separated without cutting anything at all, so that is how I am going to end up doing it. I can definitely crimp well (done some wiring on a few radios). I just want the electrical work to be extremely ...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
I understand everything you said about the wiring, but I don't understand what the problem is. Are you trying to avoid cutting any wires? Is that what makes this a problem? You can indeed remove the terminal from the ignition relay connector. You're right that a heavy duty pin or something is all i...

Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
Ran into a slight roadblock with the wiring. I have ran all of the wires that I need to run the engine except for ECU clip D. Reason being, there are 2 O2 sensors. One of them branches off from the engine harness, and the other branches off from the transmission harness. And both O2 sensors receive ...
