Up and running now.
I only drove it for a mile or so and I still have some tidying up to do, but it works!
Thanks very much for the help guys. I really appreciate it.

Re: Turbo to NA conversion
I should be ready to turn the key on this thing after a couple more hours of tinkering with exhaust pipes and some fluids. another quick question first: Am I now free to unplug and remove all the sensors on that black bracket on the passenger strut tower? The only thing i see in that spot on my othe...

Re: Turbo to NA conversion
Thanks very much guys, this is all very valuable information to me just now. It's all making sense now, and so far i think I'm doing well. I've already got the NA motor in the car. My original turbo wiring harness is installed under the intake. I did swap in a non-turbo cross-member and NA radiator ...

Re: Turbo to NA conversion
Just a tidbit for anyone in the future that may be trying to do a similar swap: The coolant crossover pipe that runs beneath the intake can be swapped too. Using the turbo crossover pipe changes the position of the coolant temp sensors so they can easily be reached by the original turbo wiring harne...

Re: Turbo to NA conversion
Thanks very much Vikash. I was hoping you'd chime in. I am a little confused about the electrics. I saw in another thread you mentioned that a Hitachi ecu needs Hitachi maf etc and also that the original turbo wiring harness should be used (different plugs near the fuse-box under the hood.) So, my c...

Turbo to NA conversion
I know some of you have done this We will ignore my reasons for now but I am considering throwing one of a few good NA engines I have into my old Turbo Wagon. I am hoping some of you can chime in with advice. I looked but couldn't find much of a thread about the pitfalls of such a task. This is a 94...

Re: I wonder what i broke (lost rear drive in 5mt)
Thought I'd wrap this thread up. Broke the axle stub off the rear diff. We repaired it and are still beating this car to death. http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t313/_bosco_/carcrap/th_0106112031.jpg http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t313/_bosco_/carcrap/th_DSC00108.jpg something else we recently...

I wonder what i broke (lost rear drive in 5mt)
I'm just looking for Ideas. This is on a BEATER field/woods car that sees nothing but mud/snow/dirt track rallying-jackassery on my friend's property. (the "First Gear test track" as we call it) So Obviously this is HEAVILY abused with lots and lots of red-lining, wheel-spinning, clutch bu...

Doh! Should've remembered this from my first MT swap. NOW i remember about the diff stud lengths and bushings being a little different. I'm going FWD to AWD this time, not just auto to manual. The rear crossmember is actually broken on my donor car, so I need to source another. That is why I ask. Th...

It certainly should be awd. did you make absolutely sure the entire drive shaft is there? Sometimes, if experiencing bad torque binding and if the fuse doesn't work out, people will remove the rear-most section of drive shaft to make it fwd and stop the binding. Are you in the US? is this a modded U...

gen 2 Rear crossmember (rear diff) swap to gen 1 leg?
Doing an AWD swap on a 93 legacy .
Will the rear diff crossmember swap from a 97 legacy?
Pretty sure it will, but I'd hate to find out I was wrong after I get a hold of one.

I'll go out on a limb here... your shuddering is probably normal for a brand new clutch, assuming that's why your trans was out. It should slowly go away. the noise sounds like a throwout bearing or main shaft bearing. you can probably ignore this noise too... unless it's REALLY bad. ...but usually ...

WTB 5mt Speedo cable thingydingy *NEVERMIND* got it
I need the bit that's hard as hell to get off.
Its the 45* elbow piece that threads into the transmission. (the one with the POS plastic nut on it )
I mangled the one I tried to get at the JY. Anyone got one handy?

The cansiter purge solenoid is tricky to get to. if you know where it is, you can try to get at it. I, along with a few others, have just left the bad one in place and plugged the 2 vacum lines and the wiring clip in to another sensor and found a place to put it. It can be a real pain to get to in i...

I noticed the other day that my buddy's 97 outback has the bracket on the strut tower, but doesn't have the extra hole in the hood to allow the prop to fit in. :smt017 So we roped the hood to the roof rack, of course.
