How close are you to getting this running? See you have it dropped in. Awesome!

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?

Post up how that wide nozzle works. After 18 cans I bet your spray finger went numb! How long did it take you? The blurple looks like it has some cool shade shifting in the right light. Would have been cool.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?

^^ I have done the trunk and hood so far. Used a can and a half on the hood and a can on the trunk. If you keep layering the unevenness disappears. Looks good so far though. Doing the same to the rest of mine this summer.

I can help you out with the vacuum line diagram that vrg3 did up! Not sure about the intercooler set-up.

Re: VF28 without engine management

Everything is in and it stopped smoking with the new turbo in like all other times. The difference now is that I have a more vertically run line run to the back breather and don't have any point at which any condensation could pool and freeze. The line is now as close to stock as I can have it with...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I found a Garrett PDF explaining set-up and problems associated with turbos concerning leakage. This listing confirms my thoughts about the pcv system causing the problems. Especially since others are using the same oil lines as I have tried with no negative consequences. I will reinstall the turbo ...

Re: VF28 without engine management

That's awesome that you are able to get it to fit. Just realized there are two port cans out there. Maybe you could grab one of those and save some space. Wish I had picked one of those up now. One thing I know for sure now is that I definitely won't be installing the catch can in the winter.

Re: VF28 without engine management

How was it finding room for the three cans? I was happy to find a spot for one! If you have one, you should shoot me a pic of your set-up. Right now my valve cover ports are connected to each other via the crossover pipe in the front and a single length of hose for the back ports. Wouldn't be gettin...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I managed to get my turbo off and took out the pcv system today. Here are my findings and I welcome any advice or thoughts. 1. I checked out the turbo and all looks good on it. The VF28 even seems to have a restrictor built into the oil inlet at the base of where the line screws in. There was a lot ...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I have enough lube for a few more cylinders! lol If it is a ring I am SOL. Not sure how I would go about getting that fixed. Old Legacy would have to retire for a while. Should I skip pulling the turbo and go straight to a compression test? Seems to make the most sense at this point. The only confus...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I haven't checked that out yet but will after the next run. It has been intermittent oil burning and goes away after each turbo swap. I definitely should clean out my intercooler. I have done gravity drains on it but should take care of it. I have read some people used gas, diesel and soap and water...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I was definitely confused about the pressure and how it related. Seemed odd that the lower pressure system would cause failure in a turbo that was designed and put on one of the newer, higher pressure vehicles. It finally came together when the volume of the oil was pointed out as the culprit in a f...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I ended up switching my oil line to the stock line/banjo bolt. I have read a few places that you can't "blow" a turbo's seals. This goes right along with what Bratman had stated earlier (not that I was doubting). With this reading, I found a post stating that running trial and error would ...

Re: VF28 without engine management

With that said, are you thinking that using a larger line with decreased pressure and finding a banjo bolt with a smaller opening to feed the turbo would be the way to go? Decreased pressure and flow? (I am not versed in fluid dynamics) I agree that the feed into the stock line is massive compared t...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I talked to the local shop and they gave me two variables to check. One is the oil drain. Make sure it doesn't have build up or is obstructed into the cylinder head as it could back up and blow the seals. The other was the oil feed line diameter. They said that if the line has doubled in size that t...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I started using T6 based on feedback from the local community here. I figured as much but also figured I'd throw it out there. Never know what might be a solution.

All I do know at this point is that the busted and rusted doesn't make a very pretty lawn ornament!

Re: VF28 without engine management

I just thought of this and I am going to throw this out there. I recently switched to the Rotella T6 5W 40 oil. It seems that my turbo blow outs all have occurred after that switch. Any way that this could be causing a higher pressure and creating problems with my turbo seals? That seems to be a pos...

Re: VF28 without engine management

Here is the banjo bolt feed into the turbo for the stock line. It definitely does look quite a bit smaller than the Kinugawa.: http://i.imgur.com/hGgungM.jpg Is there any way I could be building more oil pressure than what is needed through the line? Is there an independent oil feed ''pump" for...

Re: VF28 without engine management

I am running a new braided line from a Kinugawa kit. It was first installed on the TD04 and then reused on this turbo. The TD04 turbo lasted just over a month. Pulled the bolt off the top and all is good with that. Didn't pull the bottom bolt yet as it is freezing outside. From first install, I am p...

Re: VF28 without engine management

Another damn turbo oil seal blown. The 28 didn't even make it two weeks... It looks like my problems can't be blamed on bad seals anymore. I am at a loss. Vacuum and idle were all normal. Boost reacted as it should have. No noises coming from the engine. Acceleration didn't feel restricted. I am ver...
