Re: Tools...

I want to preface my story by saying that power tools are NOT necessary if you're not working on cars for a living. I have them now, and yes, they make lots of jobs much easier and much quicker, but there is not one single bolt or nut on an automobile that requires power tools. Not having them is no...

What have I missed?

I don't have a 1st-gen Legacy anymore either (check my signature), and I changed my username (used to be subyluvr2212), but I still drop by semi-regularly.

What are you doing for work now, Phil?

Re: My JDM Legacy B4 RSK

I'm making good friends with a serious car guy in Orlando, who has an extensive collection of cars that includes this Holden Commodore Ute. The body was imported from Australia and converted to LHD, with the engine, transmission, and dashboard from a wrecked 2004 Pontiac GTO. From what he knows, it'...

Clicking when turning?

If it's a 5spd, then there's just that one dipstick. The 5spd transmission and front diff share the same gear oil.

Clicking when turning?

Did you buy BRAND-NEW axles, or reman axles? New (not reman) OEM axles can cost $500 or more each . Even still, just because they've recently been replaced doesn't mean they can't go bad. If they're clicking, take them back to the dealer and get replacement ones under the parts warranty. Sent from m...

driver's automatic seatbelt stuck

That warranty only applies to vehicles 1995 and newer. I looked into it for my own car when my seat belt started acting up.

Doesn't hurt to call the Subaru hotline though and double-check, though... 1-800-SUBARU-3.

Not better, it's just that increasing naturally-aspirated power is easier with the 2.5.

Speedlines have always been my favorite wheels.

I, too, would have bought these in the blink of an eye if I had the money.

6spd Oil Seal Replacement

Is it true that if you don't know what you're doing when you do these, that the front diff can fall out of mesh with the pinion gear, then you would actually have to take the transmission out and crack the case to realign it? I had a Subaru mechanic tell me that once. Sent from my iPhone using Tapat...

2.5 block with 2.2 heads

Mike is right. From some of the info I've gleaned when I was thinking about doing this, you'll make just as much, if not more, power getting some headwork done to your 2.5 heads as you would with the 2.2 heads. It'll be safer too... depending on what headgaskets you use, you could even be up to 11:1...

Legacy777's 1990 Legacy Turbo

The 6spd N/A transmission in the new Legacy are just the same split-case 5spd transmission with an extra cog. So they're not as strong as the STi transmission. The 6spd in the BRZ, according to several sources though they're unverified, is a Lexus IS250 transmission with a different bellhousing. The...

Holy shit... Tony, you have no idea how many memories you just brought back to me! All of the cars Subaru produced in 04-05 are by far the best in my opinion, Forester, Legacy, STi. At least stylistically, I agree completely. I still think the 80s and early 90s cars were the most durable, as f...

http://www.motorstown.com/images/subaru-ff1-01.jpg Subaru FF1! You just got added to my Christmas card list. The 22b motor is essentially an EJ20K with a specially cast 2.2 liter block (not an EJ22T block as once rumored). Actually, from a conversation I seem to recall having with Matt Monson, who ...

So, here's what I've figured out about the B4 RSK: it's rubbish off the line, but it is NOT to be fucked with on the highway. I did have a friend with an 05 STi with an FMIC and other unknown mods (boost unknown as well) slowly pull on me... ... but neither a lightly-modded Mazdaspeed 3, nor a 350Z ...

I'm sure I can find something USDM that will match, but the part number in that catalogue doesn't work.

Sweet! Thanks Mike!

That helps confirm a few USDM parts that fit, like that shifter joint that I need to replace...

... and also lets me know the stuff that I'm on my own with, like the alternator

Re: My JDM Legacy B4 RSK

I replaced the coolant temperature sensor last night, and I was surprised at how many driveability issues that fixed. I was suspecting it was bad, as I would occasionally have a cold starting issue, where it would crank for several seconds before firing. But the car would be quite temperamental when...

Jeszek (the guy who posted the story) is a really nice guy, but he's a bit weird, in my opinion... some of his other USMB posts are even more off the deep end. So I'm inclined to call this a bit tin-foil-hat-ish. The device was probably installed by an insurance company at the previous owner's reque...

Clutch Replacement: My Race Against Time

The axle is probably corroded into the hub. Depending on how bad it is, you might be able to just hammer it out. I'd say have at it if you're changing the axle anyway, but don't damage the stub too bad, in case you can't get it out and need to put the axle nut back on it. But it's not pressed in lik...

Re: OEM recommends 7,500 mile oil change interval.

I hate to be the guy that throws the wrench into the operation, but there are lots of problems with the direction this discussion is going. Starting with this glaring contradiction: Most newer cars than ours specify change intervals from 7,500 up to 15,000 or more. The 3,000 mile oil change is from ...

OEM recommends 7,500 mile oil change interval.

I'm using the Subaru synthetic 5W30 oil in the B4 and still changing it every 3,000 miles. I may go over by a couple hundred miles at the most, but I won't do a 7500-mile interval. I consider the heat here in Florida to be severe driving conditions, and I do get on it somewhat frequently. Furthermor...
