Giving my auto Legacy L a tune up i decided to install a cold air intake. My "cai" consist of a adapter plate and cone...

I started the car up it sounded great and had a smoother idle.

When pressing the accelerator hard the car simple will not rev... It seems to just bog.

When pressing the accelerator light lightly it will accelerate just fine. The accelerator can be pressed hard only after 2k.

I have tired switching filter types from a cone to an hks foam filter i had laying around.

I've also tired changing the fuel filter along with injector cleaner.

The car does have a very small radiator leak....

this is normal with a short ram intake on a NA subaru.

they have a low speed bog.

with my set up I took a cone filer and modifyed it so its also sucking throung the stock snorkle. also, upgrading to an impreza 3in intake seems to also help a ton. it seems to have eliminated the low speed bog issue.

hmmm

I was beginning to think it was the e3 plugs...I've never tried them before.

So i just need to get ride of the stock plastic intake tube in favor of a aluminum 3in tube.

Any specific year of impreza i need to be looking for?

was it one of the filters that has to be oiled? if so the filter oil could have contaminated the MAF which definitely could cause a motor to not rev above a certain point.

I read somewhere that this is caused because the snorkus is removed. With the snorkus removed, the intake is vulnerable to irregular resonance up to 1,800 rpms at WOT, because the function of the snorkus is to shield out that resonance. With that resonance the MAF overestimates the amount of air entering the system. It's not really a big deal though, why would you need to be at WOT before 1,800 unless your racing? I have done this to 3 of my Subies, and they all bog before like 1,900 rpms, but thats just the way it is. Getting an aluminum pipe will yield little difference from the stock plastic one, virtually no power increase, but if you want to spruce up your engine bay, why not?
