resonator removal?
this weekend i unhooked the resonator in the fender hoping for a better intake sound. i didnt notice a change in sound but seem to have a little better low end.a friend came over and i did this to his N/A legacy L.it made a huge difference in intake sound and a little better power,so i did it to my forester with the 2.5 with good results also.but i still dont have the desired sound on my turbo so to my question, has any one taken out the resonator between the air box and the turbo?can it be done?if so is there better sound, spool up,power?any help, advice would be great thanks

The turbo itself is going to muffle a lot of the intake sound......so just leave it how it is.....unless you want to get nutty with fabing stuff.

resonator removal
Can someone explain how to do this? The Haynes repair manual doesn't have anything on Air Box Resonator. Pictures would be appreciated too.

i took off the airbox, whipped out my handy 2 inch drill bit, and stabbed through the thing the airbox is connected to in the fender about 4 times.
I wouldn't reccomend that route though. take off the passengers tire, take out the fender plastic on the inside, and unbolt that plastic doohickey in the fender. put it in your closet, you'll want it back after a while. Put the fender liner and tire back on.
oh, and do a frickin search. this has been covered a million times.

Re: resonator removal?
IF you want to keep the stock airbox but louder spool cut off the bottom of the airbox and put a K&N in there, I had mine like that for a while and it was definitely audible. If you REALLY want to hear it, get a K&N cone, that's what I have and it is LOUDlegacy92ej22t wrote:i still dont have the desired sound on my turbo

I've got a semi detailed write up here if you still need help. Maybe I'll take pics ifI decided to put it back in for whatever reason.

OMG, how did this old thread get dug up? It's almost a year old!
Actually since I put in my Saab 900 TMIC a few months back the intake on my car is pretty damn loud. The I/C sits against the firewall and the sound is almost too loud but not quite. I plan on getting rid of the resonator between the airbox and the compressor inlet soon too.
It's been a while but IIRC to take it out George take the airbox out so you can get to the little nut that holds the snorkle(resonator) against the fender then jack up the front passenger side of the car, remove the wheel, remove the plastic liner, unbolt the snorkle and remove. Then put everything back together minus the snorkle. You'll be amazed how big it is when you get it out of there. If you're running a N/A and don't want a loud induction noise I wouldn't bother doing this because at WOT it will be much louder If you have a turbo it will help it breath a little better but will only make a small difference in sound.
