Nono. I really do like what you've done. I wasnt trying to offend you or anything.

I would do a couple things different but all installers are different. For Instance I always shy away from circut breakers in a car environment because you never know when they are broke. they are basicly nothing more than a type of relay. They can weld themselves closed in high current applications. I've seen a car catch fire with one installed after an installer drove a screw through 4g.

Also a new product which is cool, something called 9wire, it would have helped your door boot run.

even though the tweets are shoot at your feet I super love how you did the doors by keeping the factory grill, I wold have never thought of that one.

Do you not have access to MDF? .......LOL I have no issue with other woods in a vented enclosure. Sealed is a completely different matter. The main reason for use of mdf in car stereo applications is that there is a percentage of ply type wood that will allow air to pass through it which is a nono for a good sealed enclosure. Also the low resonance of mdf is hard to achive with hardwoods without selling your house for a piece. And lastly appearance of the mdf means jack siht unless you plan on staining your box.

Oh and a good idea for your mech...if it will fit, power window tracks work well, not sure on the tilt though. Cheap too.

Again not trying to offend, just some thoughts

FYI: Plywood comes in grades. Plywood with voids in it are lower grade. Selected A grade or any AA shouldn't have voids with a very consistent density.

True but it's still not as consistant as mdf.

Hey TT,

I'm not offended at all. Good to hear about other peoples opinions. I've never had any bad experiences using breakers nor birch plywood for sealed boxes so thats why I went with that but mainly for the weight savings due to mdf weighing a shit ton more. I've used mdf in the past as well as birch but I finally made the switch over to birch after the last few amazing sq cars I did with it. The last shop I worked in made the switch over to birch so it was all I worked with for the last few years that I was installing. We did more sq cars than what I ball "bass machines".

That 9 wire is pretty cool but only see it being useful if you are installing a 4 channel amp and are grabbing the speaker cables at the head unit. The 16/4 worked perfect for what I needed in the door. I'm not a big believer in going super sized in speaker cables. 16awg is more than enough IMO.

As for more pics, I've been away in Colorado for a week so no progress on the car.

more to come this weekend probably. Still designing the jacking mechanism :)

Bump, due to my recent loss of work I've started working on this system again :) Some things didn't quit pan out as planned with the design of the system and I've had to make some changes. I'll post some pics...

OK,

I made some changes to the original design. I originally was going to have the 3 8"s mids facing up and on display but due to my amp rack change in design and removing all the planned motorization I decided to face the subs down and have the box rest on the amp rack. The box for the 2 12's will sit over the amps in the rear.

The factory mat is just thrown on top for now. The whole floor will be the height of the raised area in the rear when I'm all done :)

I'm unloading this car soon and looking to part out the stereo system if anyone is interested. All the spacers make this high end speaker system bolt up to this gen leggy. I've got different amp options available also. PM me if interested and make an offer.

I have 2 P840's which are 8 channels and 1 p4100 which is a 4 channel. I'd say make me an offer but I'm thinking around 250 each. I know they are old but they are not really used (aka many hours on them). These sold for close to 1k each when new back in the 90's FYI. If you've ever heard a setup with these speakers and amps you'll know these are true audiophile speakers.

Thanks,

Mike
