Barbed fittings

Post by Legacy777 »

Well I kind of got screwed on using AN fittings and Aeroquip hose for my fuel pressure setup. The fittings and such make it too long to fit between the fuel filter and intake manifold. So I'm just going to use barbed fittings. The problem I am having is that due to the ethanol content in the fuel, I would rather use steel or nickel plated brass fittings. However I can't seem to find a good supply. The fittings I'm looking for are

5/16" barbed tee
1/8" female NPT x 5/16" barb

I can find some stuff for the barbed tee, but am having a hard time finding the 1/8" female NPT x 5/16" barb fitting.

Any suggestions on places to search would be appreciated.

Thanks
Josh

Or anyone that sells Edelman products might have it or can get it. Like carquest stores...

Well....I have looked high and low and every where in between. Bottom line, I have not found a female 1/8" NPT x 5/16" barb fitting in anything but brass. I could try and have it nickel plated, but that'll probably be costly and a pain.

I was able to find a stainless steel. Here's some links for fittings for future reference.

However, here's what I ended up going with. Dan found these 5/16" barbed adapters with a 1/8" NPT port.

Then I got an Aeroquip 1/8" NPT to -4 AN adapter so I can use the existing fittings and hose I bought to route to the pressure sensor mounted remotely below the brake MC.

So yeah, that's what I ended up doing. I'll take some pics when I get the fittings and get everything installed.

Thanks
Josh

The setup was for adding a fuel pressure senser to tie back into my engine management. I just don't want to use brass due to it not being the best compatible material with ethanol. E10 is pretty much fine, but if the government ever bumps the ethanol content up, or I decide to try E85, then I'd potentially have issues. I'd rather just avoid the issues and go with something I know will be compatible.

I just got the fitting today and there appeared to be a little bit of material in the threads. I chased it with a tap, but the threaded part only goes down so far and does not extend into the main flow path. I think I got most of the burs out, but will probably run a pipe cleaner or something similar through to make absolutely sure I got everything.

So wait the NPT side was buggered? Chased it with a tap? Is your fitting still going to seat or are you going to seal it with something?

There was just loose material in the threads that didn't get cleaned out. I tried chasing it with a tap, but the threads do not extend into the main bore of the fitting so you really couldn't clean the threads out properly with a tap.

I used some little picks and barrel cleaning brush to clean everything. I used oil/gasoline rated yellow teflon tape to seal everything up.

ooooohhhh okay. I sounded way too smart to really do something too dumb, was just making sure lol! This is very interesting, have you purchased any fuel injection hose yet? Going straight rubber or doing something interesting?
