Trouble code 5

Post by macipusy »

I have been having issues with my car running like crap and idling at 100 rpms....I plugged in dcheck and the CEL flashes 5 times quickly. In the FSM, the first code it lists is 11.

What is code 5 mean?

I have the green connectors plugged together under the steering wheel.....I think these are the d-check plugs.

All of a sudden the 5 blinks stopped and the 32 code flashed...O2 inoperable, but started to idle ok.
I turned the car off and restarted it....5 blinks again, but idle ok.

I plug in the black connectors to check codes, and both sets (followed by the correct procedures) to clear the codes

I looked for black single wire connectors and I swear I didn't see any, only green ones on the left side of the steering column. I checked for the black ones on both sides. I will check again and dig deeper. Is it possible the 91 didn't have the black ones?

I'm guessing this thread should probably move to the electrical section.

SO I've found the black connectors....they were stuffed way back above the ECU harness....had to unplug the ECU to find them. I think when my PP6 was installed, they pushed the connectors up there when they plugged everything back in.

The codes that are flashing are 23, 24, 32, 49

23 and 49 are both the MAF sensor....so that might be causing my issues with drivability and idle.

24 is the Bypass air control solenoid....don't think that would effect drivability

32 is the O2 sensor....I have driven with it before when the wires melted to the DP and the car ran ok.

So if I swap the MAF, code 23 and 49 should go away....or do I need to clear the codes first?

I'm assuming this is on your 91 turbo, correct? What MAF are you currently running, the JECS or Hitachi? Do you have the revtronix chip or any other engine management? If not, you need to make sure you have the Hitachi MAF. If you do, then you may have a wiring issue.

I'd suggest resetting the ECU and see what codes come back.

I wasn't aware u had a pp6 in there so i dont have much of a say with anything regarding that, but as josh said, clear the codes and see what's comes back after a hundred miles or so of driving

Yes this is on my 91SS...I couldn't the the codes to clear, I think some of them are old.

I swapped my brothers 93 TLeg 4eat ECU over to my 91, and runs a little better when warmed up. It will not idle right before warmend up.
I will clear the codes on the test ECU and see if any come on again.

Things I have done...swapped a cleaned IAC, swapped water temp sensor, checked TPS, replaced ignitor, tried different PP6, swapped O2 sensor, swapped MAF.

I am thinking this problem could be electrical....maybe with PP6 wiring, ECU, or loose connection some where.
