I know you probably don't want to hear this now, but soldering the wiring together is not really the best option. I know everyone does it, but solder joints can crack over time and are really meant for circuit board connections. Mechanical crimp style connections like what the factory uses are better suited in an automotive environment.

Will you have any problems for the remainder of the life of the car?.....hopefully not, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

That's why i didn't solder the fuel pump. But yeah I remember you stating that in some other threads. I'm also running out of crimp connectors. I'll crimp the rest.

I like the non-insulated crimp connectors because they're smaller and then will use heat shrink tubing over them. It takes up much less room and looks a lot better.

I forget which company I ordered the non-insulated connectors from and very long lengths of heat shrink tubing. If interested I could do some digging to find out.

Looking really good, CJ. The amount of effort you put into her is evident.
I prefer the heat-shrink butt connectors. They're not too big or cumbersome and save the step of cutting and fitting heat shrink.

The 22-18 gauge connectors were the ones I primarily used and then 16-14 gauge. The step down/up connectors may be new. I don't recall seeing them when I ordered mine.

Josh, those butt connectors are about 1/3 the price on amazon. Do you use the non-insulated cheaper ones with the seam or the other ones that are $0.95/each with the indent for your tool?

I always forget to check Amazon for shit like this...haha. I think I was ordering other stuff from Ballenger and bought these.

Those connectors ($0.95) with the indent are for changing wire size (16-14 gauge step to 12-10 gauge butt connector). I use mostly the 22-18 gauge connector with the brazed seam for $0.17. But I have used ones with the seam before. As long as you align it properly in the crimp tool it works fine.

Figured out all of my exterior lights and rear power windows. All tail lights are wired up, even the trunk lights. Drilled a hole and routed my alternator wires. Used a plastic insulator so the wires wouldn't get chewed up by the frame. I'm ready to bolt the fenders and headlights to the car. The rear windows, Same plug as WRX and same order as far as up down and pwr. I just had to take about 14 inches of wire out. Way too long.

Still have to buy a bunch of stuff for it tho, Someone go buy that 91 SS in Lakewood, Wa so I can put money into my engine. I'm that close...

I think I forgot to mention I got a set of Manley Rods, 5.137" for a wedding present. Still planning on using the OEM pistons from the 22t block.

So after figuring out all the exterior lighting, I wired everything up tonight. Everything outside works.

I have a video of all the lights working, but I think it's too big for photobucket. It isn't showing up. I'' make another video that is shorter.

Also, Here's a nice pic of this 98 LGT I got for free, had a rod knock, I had an EJ22 in my garage so I swapped short blocks and it's the wife's daily now.

I'm trying to keep at it. I'm broke even after my paycheck because rent and bills must come first. If I can sell the 91 or the 93 at this point, I could probably be driving it next month. I still need a bunch of stuff.

I'm getting rid of the 91 and the 93. both are going to be for sale for around 3000. I will however trade 1 for a full 6 speed swap. I just haven't made my CL ad yet.

Doing some compression calculations this morning. I don't know which head gasket I want to use, 0.51 or 0.65

0.51 would put me at 8.04, quench clearance of 0.21 mm
0.65 would put me at 7.94, quench clearance or 0.35 mm

This is with OEM pistons and standard 5.137" rods

I cant go any thinner because of the piston height

How much of a difference would .1 be?

I think I used the compression calculator correct.

edit: I think I figured out the answer to my own question when I saw the "Quench Clearance" diagram.

"Keep this clearance between 0.028"and 0.032" for race engines(in) 0.032" and 0.040" for street engines"

I'm assuming this is where type of fueling would be very important?

edit again: Now I'm even more confused. 1 compression matrix says the combustion chamber is 40 cc and the other says 42 cc which changes the ratio a lot. Time for some searching.

So Mike and I went back and forth with compression and quench clearance. Made some adjustments, looks like I'll be going with the 1.37mm Standard thickness MLS head gasket. Since he has a pair, I'll probably pick them up as long as the coolant ports are lined up good enough.

I picked up most of my other gaskets today, The guys at Roopair have been really helpful. I mean hell, Look at the GT I got. I've been doing pretty good lately :-)

Anyways got a couple other things done today too. Some painting and LOTS of running around. Bearings should ship tomorrow. ACL Race #3 thrust. Now it's time to youtube and learn about plastigauge.
