I started a new project today, resurrecting a 1992 Subaru Legacy LE Touring Wagon.
The previous owner bought it with a funky transmission, and pulled the EJ22T for use in his SS Sedan.
I bought the shell, as well as a wrecked 1994 Legacy LS (back corner hit a tree, drivetrain is in good shape).

MY PLAN...
- Transplant the EJ22 from the '94 LS to the '92 LE
- Transplant the best parts and accessories I've acquired from my first Subaru, a '90 L
- Use the black SS wheels with summer tires
- Use the silver SS wheels with winter tires
- Sell the '90 L
- Sell the '94 LS for parts
- Adventure to the mountains in the '92 LE Touring Wagon!
I'm even considering lifting it a couple inches.
I'll be documenting the process as I go, as well as making a time-lapse video of the process.
Here is my original '90 L (left) and my new '92 LE (right)
Rio Red (946) and Mica Ruby (947)
The drivetrain donor, about to start digging in.
And for the hell of it, ALL THE WAGONS!!
Including my parent's 2007 Legacy, which they decided to get after cruising around in my '90 L.

Re: Brunt's 92 Touring Wagon Project
Nice subie family. I wanted to say that I lifted my wife's NA wagon on outback struts just for the lifted effect, but after about 30kmiles I want to ditch them. Just not a good ride but, that just my opinion...
On a side note, it's very weird to drive her car, lifted and all after driving my lowered SS. Takes some getting use to

Thanks for the input on the outback strut lift. I'd be interested in taking it for a test-ride if you were willing. It'd be nice to experience the results before jumping into a project like that. What does she think of the ride?

Re: Brunt's 92 Touring Wagon Project
I have the project fully assembled now, but have run into wiring issues.
I was hoping it would be as straight forward as swapping the crank and cam pins at the ECU, but should have known better with a project like this.
For now, build photos can be found under Instagram #BruntWagon

What I have so far...
Body - '92 Turbo
Engine - '94 NA
Transmission - '94 NA
Crossmember - '94 NA
Rear differential - '92 Turbo (3.9 ratio matches donor vehicle)
Exhaust - '94 NA
Wiring harness (body) - '92 Turbo
Wiring harness (engine) - '94 NA
ECU - '94 NA
TCU - '94 NA
Cam pins (B58.4, B58.5, B58.6) swapped with crank pins (B56.1, B56.2, B56.3) at the ECU.
Replaced pins F25.13 and F25.16 with pins F27.7 and F27.4 from the Turbo harness's connector to fix grounding issue.

Re: Brunt's 92 Touring Wagon Project
Finally got the Touring Wagon on the road about two weeks ago, no error codes, it's been running surprisingly well!
I installed the wiring harness from the LS engine bay and body, and it fired right up.
Pulling the dash took some time, but wasn't as bad as I anticipated.
I cleaned out all the vents and replaced the disintegrating foam seals while everything was disassembled.
Definitely know this car inside and out now!
While I was scavenging parts at the local Pick-n-Pulls, I snagged a pair of dark grey heated leather seats, manual seat belts, and a muffler from a '98 Outback.
I managed to install everything using the stock trim, so glad to be rid of those automatic belts!!
When I took it in for alignment, I discovered the rear passenger wheel was sitting at +1.7. The tech suspected something was bent and suggested putting in an adjustable camber bolt as an inexpensive solution, which got it's camber in the green (-0.3).
Next up, in order of priority...
- Recharge AC (need to acquire vacuum and gauges)
- Subwoofer under driver seat (taken from my '90 L)
- Bluetooth Phone connectivity (taken from my '90 L)
- Keyless entry system (similar to my '90 L)
- Replace dented rear driver door
- Paint hood and roof (damaged clear coat)
- Outback struts and lift kit
- Bigger tires
- Tinted windows

Re: Brunt's 92 Touring Wagon Project
I am the A/C guru, hit me up sometime if the distance doesn't bother you.
Re: Brunt's 92 Touring Wagon Project
Yes, doing A/C requires doing it right or you'll be doing it multiple times...ask me how I know.
I've also got a set of gauges and vacuum pump, but Gabe is probably a little closer.
