98 Impreza muffler into a 91 legacy wagon AWD ???

Post by trendyincdotbiz »

Will a 98 Impreza muffler bolt on and fit in a 91legacy wagon?
I justy purchased a 91 legacy that has no muffler from the rear axle back.
Found a 98 Impreza Muffler on my local craigslist for $25 and was wondering if it will bolt right up?
Thanx

Heres a pic of the muffler in question

It won't bolt up without some slight modifications. The pipe needs to be extended, and the exhaust hanger needs to be bent.

You'd probably be better just getting a generic muffler meant to fit the legacy, that or have a shop fab something up.

That or try and find a legacy specific muffler section.

This thread should give you an idea of what needs to be modified

i know it's an old thread, but...

i just put the mid pipe from an 05 sti and the tailpipe/muffler from a wrx on my 91 awd wagon and it was pretty easy. i welded in the extension in the front of the midpipe, just behind the flange and did a little relocation on the rear muffler hangers and presto it was there. you can find these parts really cheap these days also. So you basically have a nice cat-back for $50-100
