that 2nd pic is comparing the stock one to the "adapter"
Are those all the bushings/spring/etc that I should replace or are there more I should replace while it's out?

old but useful thread being resurrected. I have the sloppy shifter syndrome in our 94 wwagon L awd. I Looked under the car and sure enough the shifter knuckle bushings are missing. So I went and bought subaru part # 35047AC030 to replace the entire knuckle. Because I have no intention of changing out the linkage or shifter for anything new or different, did I read correctly this part WILL NOT work and I should just order the bushings for my existing knuckle? thanks

That part will not work with the older shifter linkage setup. If you want to use that joint, you will need to get the newer style shifter setup.

if you want to keep the current shifter setup, you'll need to return that part and just order the bushings.

I have some of the smaller bushings that I'd sell for cheap if u need them. I think they are the bushings that go on the side of the pivot point on the shift rod, and the ones that go in the stock knuckle I believe. PM me for details

Having trouble with the pm tab. Anyway, I am picking up the 2 smaller ones that go into the knuckle today from the dealership (they had to order...so I own them). Which other ones do you have as I might as well upgrade/replace while I'm thinking about it. thanks

excuse the double post. Last night I replaced both bushings on the knuckle...because after I got it out, I discovered both were missing! What I learned:

-Car in 5th gear grants greatest access to roll pin
-PB blaster soaking for 10 minutes made taking the nut off the knuckle bolt simple with 2 12mm wrenches
-cleaning the "inside" of the knuckle with a wire brush made putting it back on and aligning the roll pin holes much easier
-beveling the tip of the roll pin helped get it started
-didnt have the right size punch with the length I needed, so I found my worse longest screwdriver with a similiar diameter to the roll pin, cut off the tip and used it as a punch with great results
-I added the return spring...which was also missing...and this thing shifts like a whole new car. Done in under an hour.

Good tips!

I made my own punches out of some round bar with the tip ground down so the roll pins fit on and stay put. They work like a champ.

Any updates as to how this fix is holding up?
Some people were complaining that after they
replaced all the bushings and such it felt sloppy
again after a while. Just wanting to know if this
is worth doing.

Ok, I have a question. The 98 2.5RS shift linkage
looks a lot like a WRX and I know we can use those
in our cars with that shift knuckle/linkage. Can we
use the ones from the RS's since they have a short
shifter?

There is a difference in the actual lever pivot width between the WRX and earlier Imprezas. As long as you swap the entire linkage assembly, you should be fine.

Ah, gotcha. Man, that'd be better then. I've seen that
linkage difference in the shaft and the linkage itself.
I'll have to start looking for one of those then. Thanks :D
