Clutch Master Problem, please help!

Post by Sublimejoe »

I am in the process of converting my original RHD 93 Subaru Legacy from a cable clutch to hydraulic.

After plenty of research I landed on a USDM LHD 04-07 STI master cylinder, it bolts right up, however the rod that connects to the pedal is too short. I am able to connect it when the pedal is all the way on the floor, but then it won't come back up because the rod seems to be fully extended already.

This is my first experience with any hydraulic clutch components, am I missing something simple?

Could the master cylinder be different LHD vs RHD?

In this photo the clutch pedal is at the top of its throw

Here is a picture of the master that I purchased. Anyone care to measure a Legacy turbo one for me?

I don't have the measurement, but you will likely need a longer push rod or bracket. If you remove the rubber boot where the push rod goes into the master cylinder can you remove the push rod and maybe find a longer replacement?

That was my first thought too. I pulled the boot off and it seems to not be removable. I think I am going to have a friends machine shop extend it by an inch. I will report back!
