AC Removal - Firewall plug

Post by Splinter »

I dont know how obvious this is, but Id thought Id throw it out there.

For those of you who have removed your AC, but left the evaporator in because you didnt have anything to plug the firewall with:

Tada!

Just pull the rubber boot off the evaporator assembly and use some silicon sealer to fill the holes. Works like a charm.

My AC stays in as long as I have the car. Need AC in 80F weather. 480 air doesn't work when you're not going 80....

I think the actual grommet used in non-AC cars would have been cheaper than buying a tube of silicon sealer.

Ok I know i only have Legacy L Wagon but why the heck would you ever wan to take out the AC?

It can't be for mileage as reading on online research showed that you really don't lose that much in gas unless you are really need a tune up or the engine is very bad shape.

and having been with out AC in our old 86 mazda B2000 truck on 106 day...in stop and go.....No way I ever pull the Ac from the wagon.

You take the AC out because:
1. Weight
2. Parasitic drag
3. Engine bay cleanliness
4. Easier to install front mounts

If you live in the valley in cali or socal there's no reason to remove ac. The "benefits" are way less than not getting heat exhaustion.

AC actually warms up the inside of the car.
