New starter contact kit

Post by entirelyturbo »

I didn't see this when I searched, but does anyone know if I can get a kit of new starter contacts from the dealer? Granpa's wagon has the symptoms of either contacts or a bad solenoid. I think I'm gonna pull it next week and see exactly what it needs.

TIA!

i got a low mileage starter from the salvage yard for 40 dollars.

might be something to consider rather than trying to fix the one you have.

Well hell. There's the Toyota part number right there... I might be able to use Toyota ones from my dealer in this car!!

Poo!!

I put new contacts in the old starter last night, using Toyota parts. I found identical Toyota pieces for every last original Subaru piece, although I did have to use two different part numbers of Toyota contact kits.

But that doesn't matter. I woke up this morning to hear heavy rain  which delayed me a few minutes, but I put the starter back in when it stopped...

And...

Still does the same thing

So I guess it needs brushes or something. Oh well. The whole contact thing cost $20 and it was a good learning experience. Off to Advance for a new starter.
