The problem with that approach is I find many of our members treat ignorant the same as stupid. They're different and we have an obligation to educate the ignorant. I wasn't born with this wealth of Subaru knowledge. I had to learn it, and many times that was being taught by those in the know. Guys like Quirt Crawford, Bill Knose, Shiv, Mark Rameriz, and Joel Gatt took the time to explain things to me when I didn't know. I consider it my duty to do the same and pass it on. Forums have revived a human tradition of education through spoken word that was dying out quickly. This place is not only a place for oral traditions, but it actually records it for us at the same time.

I personally don't mind repeating myself. Oftentimes someone will link a thread to something I said 2 or 3 years ago. In the intervening years I may have learned more that I can add to those old thoughts. Or I may find out that I was wrong. How many years did the myth that the Ej22T block = the 22b block last? Even Mark Rameriz (the infamous Xephyr) swore up and down that they were the same. It took me 2 years of looking into it to get the right answer. The noobs asking questions and challenging our status quo force us to grow and learn. In fact, for years now, my definition of a good day has been based upon whether or not I learned something new that day...

I've noticed more hostility here to... I know I have been "not so courteous" to one person... Nick (555BCTurbo)...

So... ahem... Sorry bout that....

However... When it comes to vendors trying to scam (AMR Engineering)... Or at least appear to be trying to scam, and it is the consensus of the gen pop of the forum community that they are trying to scam... Ought to be given a piece of Everyones mind! Considered flaming or not! lol

And when it comes to n00bs posting regarding things that have already been covered...

Some of our things are covered in a very technical and explicit manner.... Sometimes that is confusing (Suspension).

So occasionally they cant find something via search because they don't know what to search for....

And two... What is found can be quite confusing.... I'm still lost on some of the suspension stuff...

I make a motion to remove the usage of "Do a Search" and "Search is your friend" and "This has been covered a million times DO A SEARCH"

Instead supply a link and make it more welcoming!

Do we "here" a second to that motion?

I have to agree with all of this.

I went back and looked at my first post. It was about supercharging my 93 LS. Right now I'm looking back and thinking "how retarded was I?"

But when I posted that I didn't get responses like "you're an idiot" or "wtf are you on?" or "talk to Doug about it..."

I got a plethora (yes I said pletora) of information on it. People were telling me what exactly I would need and I had others telling me that turboing would be a better option and also people telling me to buy a SS (which I did).

I didn't get nonsense. I got answers. I wasn't flamed at all. I feel like if someone where to come in and say "Hi I'm not smart with cars, but I want to supercharge my LS" now, people would flame him/her and they would feel unwelcomed and leave the board.

The reason I stayed was because of how welcoming and helpful everyone was.

Here, Hear!
I often find myself in that bracket of aware yet confused and an occasional link would be nice. Thanks to the guys who already employ this teaching aid.

Alright, I'm going off. I don't care.

This is the problem right here. People who swing their dick around as if they instructed Aristotle.

May I direct your attention to this:
http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... 220#237220

I can't tell you how many threads there are on this board about how to pull EJ engines, and specifically, threads about separating the flex plate and torque converter, since it's apparently difficult.

It sounds like the n00b-basher needs to be told to search like a n00b.

Yes, it comes down to not saying anything if you don't say anything nice at all. I have never pulled an engine out of an AT Subaru, so I unfortunately can't offer any tips in that thread. So I didn't reply to it. And furthermore, I'm secure enough with myself to know when I don't know what I'm talking about.

And... yes... if someone really knows what they're talking about, then they CAN beat their chest and tell the naysayers to shut the fuck up. If someone is truly intelligent and has put forth the effort to educate themselves on the matter at hand, then they SHOULD feel proud and demand other's respect.

But that's not the ultimate issue. When someone acts like their shit tastes like ice cream and calls other people stupid... when they apparently don't know what they're doing either...

... that's what pisses me off.

Once that attitude leaves here, I'll be more interested in participating in the technical discussions again and not just posting what I'm listening to in the Ashtray because I'm bored.

I've been reading on this but have kept quiet. I would like to suggest that I seem to recognize the same exact attitude as our old buddy subawhatsubawho. Does anyone else get that feeling?

I've got a special term for these sort of individuals. I call them the arrogant ignorant. When dealing with them my old credo of "I don't care who is right or wrong, I just want to find the right answer" goes out the window. I take the gloves off in those instances and will openly admit that I get mean. I have no patience for those people and they get my full unfiltered wrath...
