Fixing our 22t!

Post by 92 Rally »

During our last ice race our motor decided to spin the rod bearing on cylinder number two. So now its time to fix the old broken 22t so we can keep on racing. Our plans are to keep it simple and reliable.

As of right now the plans are:

-Run a hone through the cylinders, reuse pistons and rings
-Polish the crank (number two rod journal is not that bad)
-ACL Main Bearings
-ACL Rod Bearings
-Engine Gasket set
-STi oil pump
-Port the heads some
-ARP Studs?

Estimated cost = $700

This should get us back up and running with a pretty healthy motor. Once we get it back up and running we are going to try to get a local shop that we deal with to throw in on the dyno with a wideband so we have an idea of where this thing is running.

You should put new rings in if you hone it.

Any reason you're wanting to run an STi oil pump? It does have a slightly larger flow rate, but unless you're running larger oil clearances, it shouldn't be needed.

The pump needs to be replaced due to the unknown age of the motor. Both my friend and I are running the STi pump in our ej257 hybrid builds with success and figured it would be good to throw on this motor seeing how we beat the living snot out of it. We get good deals on parts and can not find a reason to not use it...
