hey all,
i'm trying to fix some pesky oil leaks and i'm reading the subaru manual and it calls for "fluid packing: three-bond 1105 & 1215" for the service hole plug and cover oil separator. I attemped to find it at my local kragen, but all they carry is permatex. I'm curious if anyone has recommendations for equilvalents or should I just drop the money and buy the real thing from subaru / adhesive shop?
thanks
lex
three bond 1105/1215 equivalent?

some followup...
After doing a whole lot of google/i-club/nasioc/legacycentral surfing I've come up with the following information.
http://www.threebond.co.jp/en/product/number/index.html
1100 series is liquid gaskets
1200 series is Silicone-based liquid gaskets and potting agents
Here is what people have said they have used:
three bond 1216=permatex 599 ultra grey
three bond 1105=blue silicone, permatex pipe sealant=teflon thread sealer
three bond 1215=silicon based liquid gasket (possibly use of anti-sieze though i don't think it's correct)
I've chatted with two subaru parts departments and they only seems to sell two tubes of gasket stuff and neither could help me to determine what the three bond numbers meant. Their gasket stuff was basically described to me as, grey=engine stuff, orange= transmission stuff. They are about ~$40 something each.

threebond is most likely something they used back in the day....the orange & gray stuff is the new stuff.....the permatex stuff works fine, assuming you choose the right stuff for the right application.
