yeah i was surprised it has no rust or rustiness underneath at all.

also they took great care of it but needs a few things like valve cover gaskets, shifter bushings and .... knock sensor. thats about it.

even came with newer struts on it - KYB (silver in color) that is unless they came stock on these?

but still want something that will handle better so im looking at some WRX wtruts, and some other plans....

things to do that are free (parts lying around in the garage):
-replace struts/springs with 05 WRX wagon setup
-rear strut tower bar
-16" goldies
-rear endlinks
-3" downpipe/midpipe
-short shifter

non-free:
-repaint or replace the rear wing
-upgrade sway bars
-summer tires for goldies
-intercooler (07 wrx)
-TD04?
-shift bushings
-valve cover gaskets

im about halfway done with the TD04/tmic install... noticed the TD04 and VF11 are twins. was hoping for something bigger but oh well it should be fun for a while and if i ever come across something slightly bigger, i can always re-swap. plus this one came pre-welded by mikey i think.

have everything i need except for the BOV for the WRX tmic and an adapter for the oil pressure galley sensor remote line.

also need to fab up a gage panel in the DIN. i like the way NICO did it so if he dont mind i may copy him.

that about it and figure out where all the lines go back to lol.

OK, a little bit closer. got a stock WRX BPV but realized its not really going to fit perfect in the stock location. im going to try anyway.

need to finish figuring out all the hoses, and still get the oil pressure sensor adaptor.

plus i got an STI catback to bolt up to my catless downpipe. of course i will need to add a 2" to 3" custom extender pipe for the exhaust since now the whole exhaust is from a GD.

its been slow due to all the travel ive been doing. hopefully have it back up and running by end of month. but work will be crazy the next 7 days so maybe not.

finally got my car back out of the garage! new turbo and TMIC are in. the oem WRX BPV seems to work good in the stock location actually. also installed the new Downpipe and thats about it. but its a little too loud (i still have to install the remainder of the exhaust). i did sneak it out for a test drive though!

woooouuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

got the exhaust all in -- 02-07 WRX aftermarket downpipe / stock legacy SS midpipe / OEM STI (2005) STI Axleback.

everything bolted right in - i only had to modify the midpipe hanger and 2 of the axleback hangers. pics to come soon.

the car feels like it wants to pull harder than before. im still running stock boost level so its not going to be much faster than stock until i turn it up. however like i said i can tell it wants to go more and feels slightly faster from the intercooler/exhaust upgrades.

its nice to have it back on the road! thats for sure.

How the heck did you break first gear on stock boost levels, stock pressure plate and solid disc?

Convert it to an NA transmission with cheap junkyard parts.

I bet you're launch technique needs adjustment for this engine. The SS with stock boost and turbo will hit peak boost at 2300 rpm and peak torque at 2800 so there is no need to rev the piss out of it. Consider using the dampened WRX parts if you keep a turbo transmission. They reduce drivetrain shock from clutch drops.

The transmissions differ in that the NA is push type. Otherwise they share many of the same parts. If you want the car to be fun I suggest a 98-01RS setup. Supposedly the turbo transmissions got shot-peened gears and upgraded bearings but I haven't seen proof or that it makes much of a difference.

The Legacy Turbo drivetrain is essentially the same as the WRX. In fact the replacement pressure plate and disc people use are often the my02+ USDM WRX parts.
