Are you reviewing it, or buying it?

Either way....is it gutless and does it handle like mush? Or am I being too harsh?

That's the 2014 Forester XT I had for review last week... I don't even think 2014 Foresters are on sale yet.

For whatever reason, there's no external hoodscoop, just ductwork that gathers air from the grille and sends it into the TMIC.

I'll say this much, it's definitely not gutless! It's a 2.0L direct-injected engine with 250hp. Too bad it only comes with a CVT now.

I don't know if I like where Subaru is going.

Tony, I don't blame you for that thought one bit...

I like the new XT quite a bit, save for the continued lack of a manual option since '08. But I like the look of it, like the lack of a hood scoop (certainly more aerodynamic than the hood scoop I'd think, time will tell how it affects heat soak). And I'll take a well-designed CVT over a slushbox anyday.

Same engine as the BRFT-86Z, as a matter of fact. Only with more T.

Yea Subaru is doing cool things (technology wise) and more horsepower is what we want . But they are getting away from "what makes a Subaru a Subaru". AWD, hood scoops, turbos. I can understand if they really want to get rid of some models cause they have been around for a long time, oh wait no I can't. The problem is for us they want to make more money and not stick to just the simple 5 models they had.

And that's what's gonna make them into the new hondas... I really don't like the direction they're headed, but i saw why the brz is rwd lol. The awd systen just WOULDN'T fit in the front end where they had everything placed lol

Subaru is feeling the pressure to meet CAFE standards. This is why they are using CVT transmissions, going with direct injection (which I have no issues with), and better aero (no hoodscoop). I would say a lot of these influences have rubbed off from Toyota's partnership.

Subaru is becoming another fish in a sea of bland boring cars. Their unique quirky and fun to drive cars is what set them apart. I think the BRZ, WRX/STi would still fit into the "good" category, I'm just curious what Subaru will do with them in the coming years.

The BRZ was designed to be a purpose built RWD sports car. Subaru had no intention of making it AWD.

They wanted it to be a straight-up track car

Yeah I think Toyota is sucking the fun out of Subaru and making them boring. That's what I think anyways. Current Legacy reminds me too much of the Camry.

Probably has more to do with share holders than Toyota ownership, but I agree.

Subaru lost what made Subaru a Subaru some time ago, IMNSHO.

This just happened a few minutes ago...

:-D

The car will finally get parked in the next couple weeks for the shifter-bushings-from-hell job. I have some parts on the way from the UK and I got two OEM downpipe gaskets thrown in with the package, so I'm hoping to keep its downtime to a minimum.

I'll post progress as it happens.
