The roll pins attach that adaptor piece to the final linkage rod that goes into the transmission housing.

I don't know how to say it any more directly- there's a roll pin. Inside that roll pin there is another roll pin.

Couldn't really tell you until I get mine installed Nico. But I do know you get all new bushings, linkages, etc... so I would say it's worth it. You can put in a short shifter any time you want, there are plenty of them made to fit the WRX shifter.

Does anyone happen to have a picture or a diagram shot of the "Adapter" that is needed to make the WRX shifter fit into the Legacy Turbo?

I have taken my whole shifter linkage apart... except for that "famous" pin (inside of a pin), which doesn't want to come out. I think that I need a impact-hammer to get that one out...

Any help (pics) would be greatly appreciated.

That thing that you are trying to remove the pin from.... THAT is the "adapter." That sleeve where the pin goes, and the first joint- that's it. I could get a picture tonight, maybe.

Ok, so my question is: do I need to buy an adapter to make the WRX shifter linkage fit onto my Legacy, or does the "adapter" which I have on my Legacy right now fit the WRX linkage?

Sorry to ask a dumb question like that, but I can't seem to picture the whole setup. Any pics/descriptions of the "adapter" would be greatly appreciated.

mTk -> the picture of the adapter on the first page of this post... Is that a stock part that comes on the Legacy, or is that a stock part off the WRX? Or are they exactly the same???

Just asked a shop to changed the WRX linkage to my turbo and I was lucky to ask the shop to do it for me since the pin on the adapter were seizessss up and it tooks them almost an hrs to do the replace.
After the swap, its a night and day different and it worth all the pennys.....
I also have a chance to get the STi short shifter from the STi Short shifter linkage, but I have to install the short shifter later since I have to get used for the WRX linkage.
What a good modify for our Legacy turbo and I must say its a "must" upgrade parts for our Legacy turbo.

Are the bushings compatible between the WRX shifter and the Legacy Turbo shifte? Like, if I got a newish WRX shifter assembly could I swap the bushings in to replace my worn ones and get most of the improved feel without dropping 40 bucks on the adapter piece?

It may be that the large bushing is the same size, therefore you could use the kartboy. But I think there are other bushings in some of the other joints in the linkage. I know the linkage side of the adapter piece is a different size, that's why we have to have that piece.

Not sure if the size is different, it's the way that the linkage bolts up to the adapter that is different. You could say that stock is a male rod and the wrx is a female rod (on the adapter end of the linkage)

there's only two bushings. the round one and the square part that attaches to the subframe.

There's a bushing in the shift lever too, but it's poly on both, so no need to replace.
