I epoxied the metal sleeve into where those plastic bushings were. i think i put wax or some crap on the sleeve. then once it was dry i hit the sleeve out with a hammer. then i lightly sanded the inside of the epoxy and greased it. instant solid bushing for hella cheap.

he had LOOOOTS of fun with this last night!

Ok So its been like 5 months and Im finally posting some pics:


Parts w/ numbers:







RalliTek poly bushings for Stay Rod (optional):


Unbolted the not on the stay rod:




Cut the stay rod bushing off, its optional (I replaced mine with RalliTek polyurethane bushings):


Removed the stay rod bushing:


Unbolt the bolt and nuts from the Boss, Joint, ad Shift Rod:


OLD Bushings and Joint removed:

Well that's a start for now. I have more pics somewhere, but I cant find them

I highly suggest anyone who does this to use gear wrenches, it helps so much with the tight spaces.

I ended up only replacing the stay rod bushing, and the bushings on the actual shift rod its self as well as the spring. The reason was because it was already 2am when I got to this point and the bolt on the "boss" end (referring to Haynes manual exploded view pg. 7A-2) would not go in with the NEW bushings, as there inst enough room and the angle was to great. The only way I could see doing that is taking the end of the tranny off.

But replacing half the bushings and that spring helped A LOT! That spring alone did wonders.

haha my bad! I thought they were HUGE but I also thought it was because of my comp for some reason. I have a HP mini (perfect for in car data logging and travel). But I'll try and fix that.

Ive always wanted a real camera...But I spend to much money on upgrades for my car, and always have my phone with me.

im definately waiting til I have to pull my tranny for the clutch or w/e to swap over the WRX linkage. You were throwing some pretty nasty words at the leggy that night, and we were up til what like 2?

I don't know if you have windows XP but here's a tool for XP that'll resize multiple images at once to whatever size you want. It's great, I use it to quickly resize all my pictures before uploading them. 800x600 works great on the forums.

Once installed all you need to do is right click on a picture you want and go to "resize pictures" in the right click menu. To do more than one picture at a time (make sure they're the same ratio or they'll be streched wrong) highlight them all and right click on them and do the same as you would with one. You can make copies of them in the new size or you can check the box to overwrite existing images with the new sizes.

Oh yeah, easiest way to do it. Quickest way too. It's basically the shit. Only one flaw though, it compresses the images so they're not quite as good of quality as the originals which sucks but for forum posting I'm not too worried about it.

Screw photobucket, imageshack is where its at. Its protected by a yellow frog, and everyone knows you dont mess with a yelow frog. Better than having your photos in a bucket

Do you do this work from under the car or from inside? Kind of a dumb question, but for those of you who were thinking that, get over it.[simulated farting sound]

I did it from under. I dont think you can from inside.

Im not 100% sure, but from the trouble I had with the last bolt as described before, it may be easier to take the tail end of the tranny housing off and just replace that gasket as well. That way you can get the bolt in with the new bushings

Comes as one assembly with the bushings in it already.

I need to purchase all of this stuff.

I have mostly complete wrx shifter linkage and a kartboy short shifter in my garage that has been sitting in there for like a year now

Just do it, amazing! Though I purchased the new spring and spring pin I didnt need it they were both in good shape. Spend the money on picking up a punch pin set!

Might as well use the spring anyways. It's new and what else are you going to do with it?

Didn't take me long at all. 30 mins maybe and that was only because the pin was hard to get out. But that was with the trans out of the car lol. Under the car I imagine would be a huge pain in the ass but I dunno for sure.

As stated, have the proper tool to drive the pin out. Replace the spring and pin, certainly if you have new ones. Get the car up high on jack stands, and don't worry how long it takes to do the job. Just do it right, the first time. The results are such a huge improvement over what you had, you owe it to yourself to do it.

Are these ALL of the bushings/spring/adapter that are part of the linkage? I'll be doing mine soon but I wanna do everything while I have my tranny out

that 2nd pic is comparing the stock one to the "adapter"
Are those all the bushings/spring/etc that I should replace or are there more I should replace while it's out?
