When i started unbolting my clutch i was instantly diosappointed by a bolt that broke off..... so now i have to do some extra work.

Today i pulled the bad transmission out of my waon and put another transmission in my sedan. Has anyone ever had a problem with the 5speed transmission bracket from a 91 fitting on a 92? i could not get the bracket to line up at all... i had to grind out one hole on the bracket to fit it onto the 92... what should have only taken me 45 minutes took me 2 hours.

Hmmm....it should all line up. You sure the engine and trans were fully mated. That trans crossmember is the same part # for all 90-94 Legacies and practically all 5mt trans subarus

Yup, that's the mount. the engine was in my shed when i was doing all of this. i just put the transmission in. i checked and checked and no matter what i did, only 1 of the two 17MM bolts would go in. as soon as i would get one started i couldn't move the crossmember enough to get the other Bolt.

is that something you can re-shape and just use a different size bolt?

no you cant use a different size bolt since its already a 17mm. plus the nut is welded to the shell. i didnt change the hole on the transmission crossmember too much, just enlarged the length of the oval hole about 1/8"

Today i got the rest of my drive train in. Also put my wheels on too, after seeing this i'm kind of excited to see it when it's all put together on the outside... i think the silver looks good with the dark grey wheels. Still have to find a whole front clip...

i don't know, i was going toat first but it's not just a bolt-on thing and i didn't want to mess with it. You have to widen/ drill 2 holes for the headlights, and the hoodlatch doesn't quite line up. Maybe some time down the road when i have the patience for that i will try it.

After meeting up with kimo wednesday i picked up a few pieces i needed...

Image
Image

The coolant tank is pretty nasty inside but can be cleaned easily. what i'm wondering before i open the top up, is there a gasket there or should i just use some sort of sealant?

Got the cometics out last night and looked at them, they're nice, heavy too for a gasket.

Image

And this is what i have so far

Image
Image
Image
Image

Gotta put the lifters and cams in today. had to look all over yesterday some some lubricant and Intake manifold gaskets. Now i have to hunt down a 20g or whatever dipstick

Yesterday i tried to go thru my shed to find some bolts to plug the oil and coolant feed lines on the LH Head. took an hour and ended up having to buy 1 bolt, but i got that done.

Today i hope to get the F*cking Payment from someone on ebay so i can go pick up some fenders from a fellow member. (If you're lookin at this, yeah still haven't gotten the stupid payment) I'm glad ebay isn't my Only source of income.

Anyways, enough "venting"

So, soon i will be done with most of the motor work, then i will put my harness and dashboard in. Install my alarm again and so on...

So today i put the driver's side cams and lifters in. I then realized im out of brake parts cleaner so i have to go get some tomorrow.... i guess i forgot to clean up the passenger side head where the valve cover gasket meets up with the head.

I also noticed i cannot use my 20H coolant crossover. here's some pics.

I posted my issue in the DOHC Installation UnSpoken Details thread located at this url

I guess im just going to chill for awhile and see what some thoughts are...

Well i'm almost done with my engine. I have to figure out my coolant routing now and then i will start putting my harness in my car and what not.

Picked up some fenders from a member last night.

Some more pics of the engine and what all i got done today.

30 dollar under the manifold intake actually looks like it'll work. everything is bolted up now, gotta find a plug for the BPV port on the intake since i vent to atmosphere.

Now i have to remember where the supply for the coolant comes from for the IAC and TB

And also gotta figure out where this is supposed to go.

Also i have to source where all the lines from the coolant resovoir go. I'm still an ameture so i may need to try to meet up with someone to get osme input. or stare at the build journals for a couple hours.... who knows.

This is my first engine build ever... infact this is also the first time i had to time a DOHC Subaru engine and that was actually kinda difficult at first.

Kind of looks like your silicone intake has a smaller diameter section under the manifold than mine. How did it fit? Was it a bitch to bold the fuel lines on under it?

Looks like you made a spacer plate like I did on the EJ22T TB. Sweet. I could have hooked you up with the aluminum if I had known. I still have a square foot of it basically. Going to make a BPV plate with it here real soon. For the coolant lines coming off the top of the TB I suggest just cutting them off and forgetting about them. I just bent mine out of the way but you could cut them off too. I probbaly will end up cutting them off just to get them out of the way more. All they do is prevent your throttle from sticking if it freezes. Doesn't get that cold around here though.

I really like the color you painted your manifold and valve covers. That's the color I wanted mine to be.

You might want to mock up your intercooler setup before deciding how you're going to go with the BPV/BOV. Are you using the 06/07 TMIC? On mine (IAC is in the same place as yours) it would not fit even the stock WRX BPV let alone a BOV because the IAC is sitting right in the way. So I'm going to be making a custom BPV plate with a 90 degree elbow that goes to the drivers side and plumbs right up to my EJ22T BPV and then runs underneath to the intake right before the turbo. I can show you pictures if you'd like or you can come check it out when I'm done. I'll also have enough materials left over to make another one if you'd like.

Keep up the good work.

Re: CJ's 92 SS build

Post by cj91legss »

As far as the intake setup, i had to cut some of it off where it goes onto the turbo, it was like a half an inch too long. and i put my intake manifold all together before mounting it to the block, so fuel lines weren't too big of an issue, as i put in the DOHC Installation Unspoken details thread, i had to tweak my fuel lines some to use my 22T crossover since the 20H cross over wouldn't work because of the Breather for the block under the intake manifold. I almost want to say that if i had the Phenolic spacers, i would not have had to modify my fuel lines. I also took all of the steel lines off my fuel lines for the Charcoal Canister. I don't use that so no need to have it there. However if i ever do put it on my car, i will probably mount is somewhere else out of sight.

I just got back from getting a hood too. it's like primer green or some crap, but a good 30 Dollar Buy

Now i need a Turbo legacy bumper.
