Re: CJ's 92 SS build...

Post by cj91legss »

Well I was all motivated and geared up to drop in my Z4 ecu and the wrx coil packs. I get all the packs installed and wired up and it'd only run on 2 cylinders. Checked my work with the multi meter and the packs were getting power and their signal so i'm assuming I've got some dead packs. I should have swapped them from cyl to cyl to verify but i got frustrated and put everything back together factory style. To get signal to the packs i pull signal at the ignitor, Green/white and yellow are what comes from the ecu side.

So some other day soon i'll mess with it some more, just need more time.

Atleast I finally tried tho.

On to some pictures.

The pack for cyl 4 frustrated me too. You cannot get the pack on the head if the electrical connector is on the pack... GRRRR

If everything would have worked out fine, it would have been pretty badass.

Also the other day, I ran into this clusterf*ck at Tacoma Pink N Pull

Holy wire taps!

Is the coil bolt a reliable ground point? I probably would run them to a chassis ground, at least.

Niice. What did the coils cost you? I'm on the hunt for them in case you find some for sale.

I ran into some of those "get this crap out of my garage" deals.

I may have a few dead coils tho so....

At 10 bucks for 2 sts im not going to complain.

You can go to 20g coils as well but they are all likely to have 100+k miles.

Realistically i should just install my ecu and see if they work then. Altho im pretty sure i wired everything correct. Doesnt make sense that 3/4 would not fire...

If someone went with the ej20g/svx coil packs, they'd need the ej20g (or possibly eg33g) igniter too.

This is correct. The EJ20G coils are not self-igniting like newer ones.

Wünderbar. I don't see the point of the non igniter cop's since the o2 WRX ones exist.

Later is NOW!

Couple people already knew But here's the official update. I went Pre Facelift. BAM!

I have been wanting to do this for a LOOOOOOONG time. Finally did it. If anyone has the hoodscoop splitter for an 1991 SS, I NEED IT ASAP.

OK, Fender and Core suppoirt fitting

Image
Image

Got the donor hood and headlights test fitted

Image

I want to make sure my intercooler is "level." Start with the ground surface

Image

Then check all connections to make sure the IC will be level.

Image

Still A little off but tat will be changed later

Image

And now to the side markers, I want to still keep the 92-4 side markers, but they will be signal indicators in this application.

First you have to oval out the hole towards the front end like so

Image

Then you insert the side marker/fender trim like so and make an outline with a straight pick

Image

Here you have your diagram

Image

Then you take a dremel and a cutting wheel, A 24-36" wand is MOST useful here, and cut away at your marks

Image

After everyting is all cut out and you have your side marker trim and side markers installed this is the end result.

Image

I wired my sidemarkers up to be Blinkers because that's how I want it

Image

I had to cut away alot of bumper skin to fit my fmic, Also had to cut away the mounts for the 91 SS turn signals, BUT that's ok because I have some JDM stuff on the way.

FMIC somewhat centered

Image

End result, Keep in mind it still looks like shit. I need to buy a 1991 Bumper beam and a 1991 hood latch. All the small shit will be worked out after i have the rest of the parts and can fit everything else sung.

Image

I'm so excited about this. The whole car will start undergoing sanding and prep for paint in a couple weeks.

There's my surprise.

You talkin about the metal thing that goes under the hood vent above the chimney? I believe I've got what you need. $10.

Did you check to make sure you car was level before doing the ic?
