AWIC Intercooler GROUP BUY! Silver or black!

Post by ciper »

Just so everyone is clear, this will not be 100% plug and play. You will need to figure out the turbo to intercooler connection (the board will no doubt help)

I have a source for subaru AWIC units, if we can get 10 people they are 50$ each (silver or black). If we get 20 we can get them for 40$. This is my cost before shipping, Im guessing you will get the unit for under 80$ if you are in the continental US.

If you are intersted please vote.

These are used units taken from engines imported to the US from abroad.
Im waiting for a response about the availability of other parts but at the moment assume there are none

To make this work (in short) you will need similar stuff as the saab setup (outlet to throttle body connector and turbo to intercooler pipe) plus coolant, heater hoses, pump, radiator.

I'm in.

What would be needed besides the IC? Seems to be about the same price as a Saab900 AAIC.

I voted for black, but I don't care really

Just the top mount heat exchanger, right? I'm serioulsy thinking of buying an engine that has one on it, but, yeah, I think I'll buy one with you as well. I want the black one as well. I've heard rumors that it might flow better.

you'd also need a tube from the turbo to the ic, a water pump, a radiator and lines to connect the last two to the ic. Assuming it doesnt come with any of that sutff.

*gears turning*

Geez, I'm so on the fence with everything. Dreams vs. reality. Catch-22 of my life!!

Need a car now, but want to keep what's left of the car I have . . . can't get another car without selling off the car that I have now.

Don't want an auto, either.

Sorry ciper.

Definitely in! I don't care at all about color, but I voted black anyway.

This would be great since I want to see how much of the rest I can quality ghetto together from cheap jy stuff.

Wow, quick response. If this keeps up maybe we can get them for 40$!

Not sure yet how we will handle payment and shipping. Although I hate it my plan at the moment is to have all of you send me the money and Ill ship them out to each person.

You didn't think you'd get a slow response, did you? You are advertising the most wanted intercooler core in the USDM (as far as turbo legacies go)

Thanks for the links Thawa. The guy that told me about the flow rate was a mechanic that had run both the black and the silver. He didn't know for sure. His statement didn't have any hard evidence backing it. I still say it COULD be true because I doubt anybody overseas has tested them since most already have htem and are moving away from them.

Again, the flow rating could just be the same. I was just adding a rumor without evidence. :)

What about brackets? I assume we'll have to make them, but what do the stock ones bolt to?

I'm extremely interested. When would you be getting them tho?

And since I'm north of the border, how heavy are they empty?

I'll just spray paint mine gold and call it rare. :)

I wonder if there was any difference. That one looked like it had some kind of bottle on the back side of it.

At that price, I'll take one just to add it to my pile of parts that one day may be a complete forced induction system.

Please count me in. Any color except fushcia.:D

If that is the case, then my black on has one, as it has the bottle. But I took it to be a little mini overflow reservoir.

evolutionmovement,
I'll try and post some pics of the brackets on my EJ20G. My AWIC arrived dented by the tie downs on the pallet, so I removed it to test that it is still water tight...

i'm almost 100% positive that the silver intercooler came off the RS RA version. it would be the one to get, not that its going to be any different performance wise, but at least you can say it came off a special edition RS.
