Just in case anyone wants to see what 18" look like on a 93 turbo.

Came across a nice deal and snagged a set of ADR 18" x 7.5" +48 offset rims with 225/40/18 khumo rubber for $800cdn.

yes i'm aware the rubber is off spec (3% difference), i'll replace it next year with either 205/40/18 or 225/35/18.

no rubbing and car feels awesome on the highway at speed and in the twisties.

I had originally been looking for a set of 17" but found these and think it turned out pretty nice.

i love the way the side gap is gone, and the tires are flush with the side of the car.

Just have to clear up the dings, dirt and rust... '02 hood scoop and some fresh paint... might even look "decent"

:D

very cool. I am actually wondering about the same thing. You have stock struts?

no... 02 wrx struts and springs

after a few months found the rears were starting to rub...

next season i will roll the inner fender, replace the struts and springs with something a little stiffer (suspect they would be fine if they were newer, but i bought them at roughly 50k, and have put on another 80k) and eventually get the right sized tire.

i did make a typo though, these were 225/40/18 and in case anyone was curious they have a +48 offset.

was the rub only under hard cornering or even under normal driving? (wondering if a stiffer setup would allow for larger wheels).

I am gonna be running a near exact same setup...just with Pirelli Pzero. The car currently has the stock suspension...but will also have some GR2s that I could work with.

i think running the gr2's would solve the problem. You may want to still roll or crimp the inner fender, to save you the hassle of ruining a good set of tires.

i found it to rub when i had adult passengers in the rear under hard cornering.

i also found it to rub when i took a vacation with the car filled to capacity... i heard it rub everyonce in a while on speed bumps or rough roads.

I've had several guys in the toronto subaru club talking about how they found their stock suspension in the wrx's going at about 120-150000km which is where i'm at.

another consideration is that i was running the wrong sized rubber. according to the online tire calculators i should be running 225/35/18, instead of the 225/40/18.
that small profile difference actually works out to nearly 1" difference in diameter.

with .5" less between the wheel well and the centre of the tire, i think even if the inner fender was pushed up, i'd still rub due to the suspension.

upgrading to a stiffer strut should resolve the problem entirely.

yeah it certainly looks that way... the wrx suspension defintely did not lower it, may have raised it about .25 - .5"(wrx's are slightly heavier)...

my driveway is also very uneven (i'll pave it next year), if you were to look at the driverside rear, the car would look like it's lowered.
