So we just got the car running td04 tpic custom intake to stock air box and 44mm ewg , but not sure what spring is in the but feels like when waste gate opens up its starts to sputter??? And doesnt really pull much and on high way it didnt want to go over 85 kinda just got stock there. About to get boost gauge and afr to see whats happening but any ideas what else can be? If I get boost controller and set it up to like 10-11psi should be good? And I dont think I need a piggy back just quiet now? Thank you

Welcome to the BBS.

Can you provide some additional comments on your current setup and modifications?

Fixed the problem kinda, had vacum line hoocked up to wrong tube on the ewg but runs sooo much better , still need to get boost gauge and afr to see whats happening it pulls nice on 60to70 % throttle after that its pointless after the boost gauge is in there gona see what psi im running because I think I have 5psi spring in the waste gate, but mods are 44mm external waste gate wrx intercooler td04 with welded wastegate thats on it stock air box stock exhaust down pipe etc , fresh new clutch tbelt and re sealed motor 217k on the clock and still runs smoth, stock ecu too factory 5speed I think thats it , ohh k&n filter for stock box, too much heat for the cone :)

The 5 psi wastegate spring may not be optimal at stock boost levels of around 8-9 psi. I'd say you're on the right track with getting the boost gauge & AFR gauge to see what's going on.

So far I didnt do that bad agains friends hawk eye wagon with intake exhaust and sti tranny but my car doesnt want to really go after 5k rpm right now too

No, I think it's the other way around....the spring is too heavy for such low boost. If the spring requires at least 5 psi of boost to effectively open properly and you're only making 8-9 psi, there may not be enough boost pressure to relieve the wastegate gasses.

However, if that was the case it would usually cause boost spikes. If you're not seeing boost spikes, then the 5 psi spring is probably fine. I would suggest double checking all your vacuum/boost lines to make sure they are secured properly and not leaking.

I pluged in the boost selenoid back to run than and not the waste gate pressure and for somw reason it feels like car starts to spool up at 2000 rpms and trying to hop.... but once I give it more gas it gets to 3k and it goes .... now I think boost solenoid is acting up but idk some times it throws me check engine lights and goes away and comes back, im just going to wait for my gauges when buddy takes them off his car to see whats happening. But problem is that idk where to mount them ... dont want to make holes on the dash and they wont fit on the side because of the sliding seat belt

That's where I mounted my boost gauge. I was going to put another behind it facing me but angled like a parking lot.

Have you checked the codes to see which ones are coming up?

Use the link below to reset all your codes, then drive the car around till the check light comes back on, and then check for stored codes.

Check for stored codes then.

I have a 92' with a swapped-in EJ22t--turbo ECU and 4EAT. boost cut at approx 11lbs-boost cut possible from TCU or do I need FCD for my ECU? Tuner said stock ECU has the cut; any ideas?

Hey Rod,

You are right around the fuel cut limit, so I would suspect it's related to that and not the TCU. The TCU doesn't see boost pressure from the MAP sensor.
