Need help please, 22 spline rear axles, what cars had them?

Sorry everyone but I've been going crazy with reading and searching the Internet and can't find the information I'm looking for. I am in need of rear axles for my 93 Legacy with 97 Impreza Brighton rear diff.. Ones with 22 spline inner male stubs. Does anyone know FOR SURE which other models/years have axles that will fit correctly? Please and thank you

Specific questions: are phase 1 manual transmission Impreza Brighton 3.9 rear open differentials the same as 90-94 legacy open differentials?

What is the spline count of 90-94 legacy MT rear axles

The second gen Legacy GT auto had male axle stubs in the rear.

I don't think you can tell which impreza has it without looking? I googled "impreza 22 spline rear axle" and this came up, not sure how helpful:

I've read this link before and the information I need is not here. Also, there is contradicting info in that thread. Thank you for your efforts though. Anyone else have concrete info on what is compatable?

I don't think you're going to get the answer you're looking for. It appears the spline count varied depending an unknown factors, but you'll only maybe find them on early low weight low spec cars. None of the aftermarket companies have it straight. In your situation, it may be easier to find a matching ratio 24 spline rear diff as they use a more common axle.

I hear what you're saying, I appreciate your response. I'm still hoping for someone to have the experience with phase 1 open differentials to know if the spline counts changed among Impreza/legacy/foresters in the mid and early 90s.

A more specific question: what is the rear axle spline count of a 94 legacy wagon MT?

Vtsportscar, all AWD 90-94 legacys have male axle stubs on the rear diff, with roll pins going through the female inners just like fronts.

Your diff and axles are very uncommon. In the couple years I worked in the junkyard, I only saw a handful of them. I too would encourage you to swap to a more findable setup. I would recommend a 3.9 open off a manual trans, ej22 engined 2nd Gen legacy.

I did some digging on Opposedforces.com and found a list of Legacys and imprezas that share the same rear axle. According to their info, the 3.9 open diff from the automatic 2.2 legacy L 95-98 is the same as my Impreza diff. Could that be possible?

It's entirely possible that the rear axles are the small spline only on automatics, since the auto has less shock load than a manual. None of the aftermarket parts companies seem to have a listing for different rear axles for any of those years though.

Opposedforces shows two different axle part numbers: 28092AC000 and 28092AC010

The 000 I suspect is the 22 spline axle as it's exclusively used on EJ22/18 Legacy and Impreza with auto; literally the only manual usage is the EJ18 Impreza Brighton, the lowest possible spec.

The 010 is used on all EJ25 cars, Foresters, and manual EJ22/18 Imprezas.
