Coming from behind the dash. Only happens when the car is in motion. My roommate suggested it might be the speedometer cable. Any ideas, and if he is right how can I access it and/or replace it? Bought the Haynes manual but can't seem to find any info in there.

sounds about right to be speedo cable. happens when it gets cold sometimes and the grease thickens up.
You can sometimes reach up under the dash and find the cable and make sure its fully pushed into the gauge cluster or remove the cluster and access the cable to lubricate it
