You've posted this question several times. What is the broader project that's going on here?
Yes, PVC is fine for air intake use though it might get a little soft if being fed 300deg turbo air.

Re: resonator advice
Are you talking about the tube between the MAF and the intake?
Yeah plenty of people have made those kind of things out of PVC pipe. I'll try and measure when I get home but the garage might be snowed in and you might have to wait a few days for snow to melt.

Re: How to remove cover over shifter
Remove shifter trim. You might have to pull the center console to get at it. Take a look at the mechanism. It's been years so I forget exactly but if you look how it actuates there's an obvious spot to thread a zip tie around to keep the lock from engaging. You don't actually have to take the shifte...

If the ones in your car are in good shape you can re-use them but considering their age I wouldn't count on it. I've got like a 50% record of them being usable. Replacements are $20-25ea. You could buy them with the plan of returning them if not needed.

Re: Help with 1994 Subaru Legacy L AWD Suspension
What you need is a set of four struts for a 98-08 Forester and a pair of two rear strut mounts (aka top hats) for a 90-94 Legacy or 93-03 Impreza. You will swap the Legacy strut mounts onto the Forester struts in order to make them bolt into the car. This is easy to do with coil spring compressors w...

Re: Intermittent CEL and unusual radio illumination behavior
That sounds like a TEXTBOOK ground issue. The ground is not able to pass sufficient amperage without voltage drop across it. So if there's 0v on the chassis and 3v on the harness (25% voltage drop) then all those things trying to send amperage through that ground are effectively running at 9v hence ...

Re: Engine oil leak?
Power steering?
In my experience oil (of either type) tends to pile up on the top left of the block and not really have anywhere to drop to so even tiny leaks look a lot bigger.

No harness damage? If you could smell the smoke then there should be soot somewhere.

You can buy copper wire mesh loom for shielding stuff.
You can also do what Ford does and just run the wire in an aluminum foil sleeve.
In both cases the shield needs to be grounded.

I wouldn't worry about the CEL and MAF code. All mine do that when they get moisture in the intake.
There's not much to go wrong in a knock sensor other than the physical wires in the harness and the sensor itself. Have you measured resistance?

Fuel pump on one of the other cars died 10ft after filling up with gas. The OEM fuel pump lasted 210-230k on the white car and this one has 245k on it so I'm not exactly surprised. Thankfully I bought multiple to have in stock after the ordeal with the white car so it was just a case of getting my g...

It's a shame you're on the wrong coast or I'd be interested in buying a heck of a lot of stuff but most of what I want is not economical to ship vs the cost of dealing with what's available.

steering U joint phase
Is there any *good* reason a steering shaft would be out of phase by 135 or 45deg? I have a pile of old Subaru intermediate shafts from 90-94s, 95-99s and some newer. They all got replaced because they were bound up. A former Subaru tech gave me then. The ones without a rag joint are 45deg off from ...

Re: Best Way To Clean Hydraulic Lifters
It's really hard to diagnose stuff like "running rough" over the internet. You probably do have somewhat of a sludge problem. 140k over ~30yr means few highway miles. Synthetic oils didn't become cheap enough for everyone to justify until recently. I would be weary of diluting the oil in p...

Re: Wheel Bearings
New bearings should have noticeable resistance (especially with all the seals in there). They should be stiff but not crunchy stiff. Like they shouldn't free-wheel more than a fraction of a turn if you bolt a tire on and spin it but you should be able to spin the tire by hand after torquing the axle...

Perfect, knowing that it's bolted from the underside is exactly what I needed.
I think I'll try my luck at a $10-20 signal amplifier first since that's easy and at present I get FM, just very poorly.
