Re: Did my homework. Grade me plz =)

Just the stock EJ221 ECU and harness. Most of the driving will be done under 4000 RPM, hence the stock ECU.

Re: Did my homework. Grade me plz =)

Engine Swap (the blueprint) My plan is to swap the EJ22E with the EJ251 longblock and use the EJ22E harness and ECU. In order to do that and keep it as clean and stock looking as possible, some modifications are required. Here’s a WIP catalog of 2.2 engine management parts and their compatibility w...

Re: Did my homework. Grade me plz =)

Some background Since not many people have swapped the Phase II EJ251 into a Phase I EJ22 vehicle, I have gathered what little information I could. Seems like an entirely doable swap, with a few small caveats. Here are some examples I was able to find: Phase II EJ251 into 1990 Legacy swap, write-up...

Did my homework. Grade me plz =)

I’m doing all my homework for my next DD. The 940 Turbo Sedan is getting tired and I don’t want to put any more money into a Swedish import sedan- I want a Subaru Legacy AWD wagon! Budget is a real issue, I don’t have wads of cash lying around to throw at a WRX Turbo swap with rebuilt internals and ...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

Stock ECU.

Crap, if I split the block, then I'm basically rebuilding anyway. The advice is to avoid rebuilding the bottom end and just swap. But there's no way to deck the block without disassembly. That's a bummer.

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

OK, this thread got to be pretty long but I've narrowed it down to the EJ22T or EJ25D swap. A final question for those who have done it before: deck blocking. Is it possible to deck the block without disassembling or is disassembly necessary? I'd rather not break it down unless I absolutely have to....

Re: Ej22t/v6207

Anyone have a link to a writeup on a harness merge for this setup. Usdm 205 engine harness to my factory legacy chassis wiring? Or have any suggestions for this. The cost of having someone else do it seems steep For the EJ205 into 1st gen legacy? Unfortunately, it seems no step-by-step walkthrough ...

Re: Ignition issue car is down for a month now

Sounds like your problems are all over the place. When was the car last running right? That's what we need to provide you help. You have to start with the solid information and then work through it. You may have multiple issues going on at once. Start with the usual suspects and work your way throug...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

Really good point, actually. If I can increase the boost to 8 PSI, retard the timing a few degrees to prevent knock, run good injectors/pump and a TMIC, then I have a ej22t top end on a lower mileage ej22 NA bottom end. Could even use a thicker head gasket when I do the head swap and lower compressi...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

Well, actually the 5 PSI might be good for 15 HP. The upgraded injectors, pump, and intercooler charge density might be good for another 5-6 HP. Just a speculation.

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

I don't know all the math formulas, guessing 15-20HP when the turbo spools? 20 HP is pretty good for $500. That's like a 15% gain. Don't think any bolt-ons offer that performance.

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

That's great advice Josh. Thanks for all your help. After all the feedback, I think I may just slap 22T heads on a stock 22E, run 5 PSI boost, and call it a day. A full rebuild appears excessive for my modest goals. If the engine blows, then it blows and I'll have to rebuild. I'll have a higher comp...

*sigh* I forgot the clutch.

Writing it all out makes me realize all the costs entailed for a full rebuild. Definitely questioning my plans at the moment. Still not sure, advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

My budget is $1500. That number sounds pretty low, so I'll explain. I have $1500 saved up, and after it's running I'll sell the 940 for another 1500. But my goal isn't spending $3000 just to get it running. My goal is to spend 1500 so it's drivable, then 1500 more on turbo parts, suspension, mods, a...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

You may be optimistic, and I may be pessimistic. I'm planning on stripping the 22E block and finding stressed rods, runout on the crank, out of round cylinders, and scuffed pistons. I really won't know how much of the old engine I can reuse, until I crack it open. If I get lucky, I might be able to ...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

Crap. *smacks forehead* I just realized WRX OEM pistons are for the 2.0. I was hoping to pick those up cheap, but they won't even work. I suppose OEM 22T pistons are a necessity. Really don't want to buy brand new though. One problem is if reusing the EJ22E block and it needs a rebore, I have to fin...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

It's just the EJ22T heads with dual port exhaust and turbo cams with the open deck 22E bottom end. Everything else (VF11, ECU, fuel system, pump) will be stock from the 22T. Fully assembled, it should be virtually identical to stock, excluding some minor details like squirters.

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

Let me back up a second with some newer information. I want to turbocharge because it has the best possible combination of power, daily driveability, and fuel efficiency to boot. I've looked to a hybrid high compression NA build and it seems: equally expensive, less power, less fuel efficient, highe...

Searching for an EJ22E NA in the Colorado area at the moment but don't have it yet. Before I get it, are the pistons different diameters? Asking out of curiousity and lacking the info.

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

$300 for a complete EJ205 longblock? Holy smokes, that was a deal. I've been looking for engines my area. So far, I found one guy selling an EJ205 shortblock with a bent #3 sparkplug for $300, and it needs a rebuild.

Sick build btw, Alphius.

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

Realistic chances.... if you set your mind to it you can do it. I like to have all my ducks in order before I start any project. And it seems like there's a lot more to understand about the WRX swap than there is the 22T swap. The OBDII ECU isn't my strong point and that information is a bit intimi...

Re: Turbocharging the EJ22E?

Please don't exile me, but I wanted a second or third gen originally. For pretty much the reasons you said. However - I was thinking 1st gen with the 22T heads would be super easy in terms of wiring. Just change a few pins around and add one sensor I think. Maybe I could get a later gen with the WRX...
