Re: Stalling with white smoke

White smoke means hg. My guess is under boost the head is lifting enough to allow coolant to slither by and that's when it makes car buck and smoke.

Re: RTV or No RTV for Valve Cover Gasket Replacement - SOHC

I've changed over a dozen using Felpro blue gaskets. They feel and look the same of the overpriced oem ones. They work awesome! No sealants needed! Although you can use a little on inside of valve cover to hold gasket in place for placement, especially on drivers side where it can be really tight! B...

Any chance you can meet in middle or coming to Spokane for any reason? I wouldn't mind taking this off your hands if it's a good reliable runner for close to asking price.

91 SS suspension help.

Yes I have read the stickies and searched endlessly. I'm still confused... Came across this on local Craig's and offered quite a bit less and seems to be ok with it. Would this setup fit my 91 SS? My rears are blown out and also like the idea of getting a matching set all around with lowering spring...

Quite the journey with this car... just went through all 19 pages seeing everything you have endured and done. Nice work sticking with it!

Re: 91 Legacy Turbo lots of cel problems.

Since only code 35 came on during the active test, that's the only one you actually have (or at least, the only one the ecu sees for now). Some ecu's won't erase the other codes until it's cleared, and yours seems to be one of those. Check the vacuum reference guide here: http://bbs.legacycentral.o...

Re: 91 Legacy Turbo lots of cel problems.

So I plugged both in on my drive home.... it was only blinking code 35 with both plugged in all the way home.

I get home unplug green after I shut off car and turn key back on and all the codes were still blinking.

Any ideas?

91 Legacy Turbo lots of cel problems.

Dave, I'd definitely suggest using the method on your web page. Some ECUs (I don't know about any particular ones) do store trouble codes in nonvolatile or semi-nonvolatile memory, so a battery disconnection doesn't delete them. There's also a bonus with the "proper" memory clearing proce...

Re: 91 Legacy Turbo lots of cel problems.

It's 160hp when stock, so it feels pretty close to an outback, Forester or other ej25 subaru, with torque coming on sooner. Have you driven around with just the green connectors attached? That will show you just the active codes. I think it's worth a shot to try clearing codes the official way, usi...

Re: 91 Legacy Turbo lots of cel problems.

What procedure did you use to reset the codes? Sometimes code 35 causes you to not be able to clear the other ones. Is the purge valve connected electrically and are its vacuum lines routed properly and not cracked or leaking? After I diagnosed the codes I unhooked battery multiple times for a peri...

Hello all, I just picked up a 91 Legacy SS. First of its kind, but have had many subis over the years. Found that this site really obtains more information for these older generations and figured I should join. Picked it up for $1200 with 197k in good condition minus few small issues. Motor is in ne...

91 Legacy Turbo lots of cel problems.

So I picked up a 91 Turbo legacy 5spd and finally pulled the codes. Code 17 injector 4 Code 22 knock sensor (replaced still there) Code 23 air flow sensor Code 24 air control valve Code 35 canister purge solenoid valve Code 45 pressure sensor and exchange valve. Now the car runs fine for most part. ...
