Sounds like a coolant issue to me as well. I've brought my Legacy under high temperatures (I was looking at these houses in Greece for the holidays, in September) and it worked fine until I had a coolant leakage, which led to the issues you're describing.

It happened to me once after overcharging the roof, it was solved by changing the motors (which was done in a semi-artisanal manner, so I can't really help with the exact model of the motors)

Wait, there are Legacy-dedicated oil return lines and other spares on Amazon? Are they standard Subaru models, or more recent parts that happen to fit on older cars?
