As for higher viscosity gear oil being worse for synchronization, that makes perfect sense, but... What's the explanation for my transmission synchronizing much better when cold than when hot? Do you think a previous owner may have put a thicker gear oil in than it's supposed to have? Mine is bette...

Higher viscosity gear oil will probably make your synchro problem worse. Take it from me, I tried it. The deal is: higher viscosity is better lubrication for your bearings BUT lower viscosity is what lets your synchro's do their job easier. Your synchro's DEPEND on friction to match speeds of the va...

Out to pasture?

My NON-turbo wagon's chronic diseases are finally catching up with it. :( What do you think, guys? Is it time to put it out to pasture? Time to leave the Legacy community? Or time to invest a lot in a beat up old car? 1) Clutch Slips (I've adjusted the cable a couple times, now that doesn't help any...

It happens. I love drifting, but the more I do it, the more I learn my lessons. Everyone learns eventually that it will never be totally predictable. At least you've learned your lesson without anyone getting hurt. Now, go enter some autocrosses and rallycrosses and enjoy it next time!

Rallysam, I didn't notice any emoticon denoting sarcasm in your post about the Mitsu commercials. I hope you were being sarcastic because those commercials are FAR worse than ANYTHING SOA's put out to date. Even Dave Chappelle made fun of that retarded chick who's "dancing" in the shotgun...

Yeah what's up with SOA's ad campain? It's downright embarrassing. It always makes them look like a second-rate company because their commercials always miss their mark. Now those Mistsu commercials (nightime, hip, urban) are awesome!

It hard to describe the sound - kind of like a gargle/knock. - and only gets loud during good acceleration A gargle/knock??? I don't think that's a heat shield. A loose heat shield would sound like a tin can. A *clank* or a rattle. It would sound high pitched... like loose sheet metal. That's what ...

I'll sell you my POS Legacy for 1000. It has a failing headgasket and/or leaking valve seals. Also, the synchros are shot and the clutch is a goner. But, if you replaced every moving part on the car, it would run like a champ and be totally reliable!!!

I would think that the limit would depend on your boost, also. High intake temps might be ok at low boost levels. Also, vice-versa is true: high boost levels are ok at low intake temps (that's why you get an intercooler). So there probably isn't one simple number to put on the temperature limit. Did...

If your hood is shaking, there is a problem somewhere. The striker for the release may be misaligned fore-aft, left-right, or up-down. The little rubber spacers above the headlights may be at the wrong height or missing entirely. The bolts holding the hood to the hinges may be loose. I checked agai...

My RS's hood shakes all the time. I ran without the hoodscoop-plug for a while, I think it got better. Give it a shot. The only problems is that it makes your engine a bit dirtier (shrug). Of course, if your hood-release is not properly grabbing onto the hood, that could be pretty sketchy. Just pict...

You could always just replace that solenoid (that's my smartass comment for the day :D ) This sorta reminds me of a thread somewhere on this board about wiring up that fuse so that the emergancy brake disabled AWD. That let the guy really lock up the rear wheels while cornering. I thought that was p...
