FS: Leather seats + FREE cloth seats

I have a set of rear seats for a sedan that are finished in pretty nice leather. I got these a few months back, but I have only wagons... So they don't work for me. $25 picked up. I also have a set of both front cloth seats in great condition, only a bit of wear on the driver's side... for FREE! Som...

TY# on the driver's side bellhousing, usually ~above the starter. Gear hack has a decently compiled tranny chart, North Ursula also.

This is why I tape record them - their whole tune changes once they know they are on tape, but the trick is to get them to say something unprofessional before you let them know (usually not too hard). Re: Speedometer woes

Sounds like the speedo gear is stripped if you can spin the slotted drive fitting in the trans..... You removed the speedometer base extension from the side of the trans and turned the speedo drive shaft below it, right? There's a chance it just fell off if the C-clip was not on correctly - but eith...

Re: Cadillac STS-V...

My old man has an STS-V, it's definitely a sweet car with allot of nut. I think the steering is tighter rack-to-rack than anything I've ever driven - strange feeling on a car like that... It's also funny that the Cadillacs are getting smaller and lighter while most other cars are getting bigger and ...

Re: Vehicle speed sensor

I know this is a long dead thread, but good info: My speedo broke on Tuesday, no signal from the VSS caused CEL, fans to run constantly, weird idle (very high when cold, low when warm), random stalling and loss of power. This bad boy fixed the problem: http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/im...

Re: So what makes a phase 2 5MT different from a phase 1?

For the most part, yes. But there are TY753's as well - almost all of which I've seen are P 1. However, I'm not sure that's a hard and fast rule - I did see one that had a phase 2 center diff, so they may have been an in-between phase. I believe the 753's are only found in MY 97-98, but definitely n...

Re: New LC BBS software update.

Maybe a nitpicky thing, but do you have the option to put that google search bar back on the upper right of the page? I use that thing every time I'm on the forum (usually multiple times) and it sometimes produces more predicable search results.

Thanks for the time you guys put in doing the update!!

I ran this exact transmission. It was awful on the highway - in practice that short 5th gear translated to ~3800 RPM at 72 MPH. Terrible for mileage.

I think if you have the right clutch for the new trans, you can just hook your hydraulic lines up it will work. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I know some have done this before, but this is something I would have investigated further before removing the trans! I believe what's usually done ...

BTW, those ratios are based on old North Ursula data, so I'm only 98% sure they are correct. My compiled tranny chart has not failed me yet, but I'm still not confident enough to publish it....

With that amount of mileage, I would not worry too much, but the design is not as tough as the phase I. There are less dogs, and they changed the cone/mesh so that the gear slowed down more efficiently before a shift, at the expense of increased synchro wear. If you rev match anyway, it wont matter ...

IMO you'll want to replace 3rd gear (those dogs look pretty beat up). I'm not sure if the dogs and cone are part of the gear or separate in that year, but the manual should tell you. You'll want the synchro kit with all the little clips, probably want that bearing between 4th and 5th, and whatever o...

You could easily do the mainshaft work yourself if you have a good press and an assortment of jigs to pull the gears. The tolerances on reassembly are not that crucial, most things just get pressed back on nice and snug. You will change tolerances a bit, but they will be within the error of the fore...

I can't really tell from the pics, but the third gear synchro looks pretty shot. I'll bet it'd be drivable, but if you want it to shift nicely, you should may want to replace that synchro and perhaps even the gear. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think the dogs on phase II.5 third gea...

After a second look, the dogs on third gear look pretty beat. Have some more pictures? I'll bet that synchro ring is shot, and from the direction of the wear, it looks like she was grinding it badly on the down-shift (or slamming it out without putting the clutch in). Do you have the manual? At some...

I like your hypothesis on the loose nut, but the bearings on 4th + 5th gear are probably in rough shape because they were run loose... You check their free play, then spin them up on a lathe and see how much pressure run-out they have. It also looks like the stabilizer bearing between 4th-5th spun a...
