I had an auto legacy turbo. it was killer. I loved it. Even more than my brand new Impreza. the auto version isn't THAT much slower than the stick version. and when built up, it'll be plenty fast. Autos only suck for cars like hondas with no torque. Torque converters need an engine with enough torqu...

I think japan had an "S4" version with slightly more power and a little lighter. but I don't think STi ever did a "version" of it. STi tweaking a NA car is like Mugen tweaking a turbo car

I used to get about 17 mpg on average. one time RT.2 was infested with cops and I drove the whole way to and from work at like 65  . I got around 20-22 mpg on that tank. normally I drive 75ish and can't help but have a little fun on the backroads in my town. an EJ22t at WOT swallows gas like a ...

there was this legacy at a rally-x....

I went to the Essex jtc. rallycross yesterday. one of the guys in our group does rally photography. here's pic of a 1g legacy he took: http://www.onalimbracing.com/stuff12/IMG_0555.jpg note the license plate :D . It's a NA LS AWD IIRC. wow.. that'sa lot of acronyms ! he said there will be more ...

I'm looking to buy it and I jus twant to know if I should even bother looking at it. being from MA it has to be AWD to even be worth consideration. so can you guys tell from that VIN if it is? thanks. hope to be in the ranks again soon. s...

lol. good to see I'm missed a little :D . I play aroudn with my Impreza sometimes doing DIY this or DIY that (I'm so damn cheap), and I'll post about that in the tech forums on NASIOC. but for the most part I just post in OT. I don't get my hands dirty except to change the oil. I miss really tinkeri...

I miss my Legacy

it's been a month or 2 now. I miss the "hsssssssss" and the subsequent "pshhhhh." I miss being able to really mod a car. it was so cheap to mod that thing. NA mods on my Impreza are so much more expensive. it's a lot harder to MacGuyver things. The torque that thing had was great...

you could email KC from NASIOC or go to his site www.rallydecals.com . he did a really nice job on the NESIC decals for the new england forum. I bet when we have a design that he'd be able to punch a bunch out for pretty cheap.

yeah. the top speed on the '92 was listed at 155. stock. all later years were limited to 143 IIRC. there's a couple hundred pounds of weight you can kill. thrunk reinforcement (those criss-crossy bits welded against the skin metal of the trunk). door guts. sound deadening tar. bumper beams if you've...

The SVX a little heavy, but the engine is a monster. 240 hp 230 lbft of torque. that's good for a 3.3 liter engine by today's standards. it had a bunch of cool engine technologies that are still considered pretty advanced. variable length intake runners and the like. tuners don't like the car much. ...

intake and exhaust are the normal things, save removing the snorkus. There are some other minor things to do for similarly minor gains. I ask you, as the driver of a fwd automatic, why worry about tiny gains that will only make you faster than yourself? It's like making a non-fast car into a non-fa...

the charcoal canister on a turbo has 3 lines, and the NA only has 2. the extra line on the turbo has a pressure activated chack valve that breaks easily  . the whole exhaust is wider and whatnot. don't know if you're including that in "the engine." obvious, yes. but thought I'd m...

I did something like this. a little different. if I'm seeing this right, you have it bleeding to the atmosphere under pressure so the MAP can't see it? the way I had it was just a one-way check valve inline with the line you have a tee in. that way, the valve would open under vacuum and close for an...

I found the piping to be the biggest issue on my setup too. I ended up scavanging the turbo->IC pipes from a volvo. the BOV bung is in there too. on a '80s volvo 740 turbo (IIRC), there is a hose with almost the right bend in it, and a solid aluminum elbow with a bung, both in its turbo->IC puping. ...

the reason running lean is bad is that combustion temps soar. this causes high cylinder temps, and in turn can cause pre-ignition knock due to hot surfaces. injecting water and alchohol into the mixture WILL reduce combustion temperatures as teh water will absorb a lot of energy while turning to ste...

FWIW, I have had success with my Saab IC. the tubing is somewhat jimmy-funded. the hoses fropm teh turbo to the IC don't mate with the turbo just right, and the curves are less than optimal. still, the hoses and IC both stay at a reasonable temperature. should be in the high 80s next week. I'll keep...
