Wiring issues?

Are all 4EATs the same?
I just bought a '92 SS (turbo) with a bad 4EAT, it was gonna be a engine donor but its in good enough shape I might fix it. Will any AWD auto work? Are they all 3.90 ratios? What years?
Thanks
Gary
Thanks

Yeah, without some testing or inside info from Subaru, it’s all a bit speculative. My gut feeling is that in stock form and new (little blow-by), the valve covers rarely if ever see out flow. But with some mileage on the engine I think it’s pretty likely. My EA82T in my ’87 RX has a similar PCV syst...

Bad news… I checked the signal voltage on the EA82T last night and it doesn’t use the same voltage range as the EJ22. Its 3V at idle and 6V during full boost/throttle at redline (2ed gear). So the EA ECU isn’t compatible with the EJ MAF. Oh well, it was a fun idea. I guess you could try and resolve...

Yes, I think it could be. I guess the question is whether the engines production of blow-by vapors ever exceeds the volume that the case vent can extract through the intake pipe port with the PCV closed (assuming the rings aren’t completely shot). We know that both ports into the intake pipe are at ...

All_talk - The EJ turbo and non-turbo setups are functionally identical except for the fact that the turbos have an extra tee connecting an extra fitting on the block to extra fittings on the valve covers. The non-turbo one does also use the intake piping as a source of vacuum at high load. There i...

Hardy - I dunno... I thought the area behind the valve covers is supposed to be pretty much continuous with the area in the crankcase, isn't it? I mean, don't a lot of inline engines have their PCV stuff only on the valve cover, with no fittings on the block? Yep, pretty much continuous, the extra ...

Gary - It's almost certain that the EA82T's MAF sensor has a quadratic transfer function similar to the EJ22T's. But there's no reason to think that the EA MAF sensor tops out right at the EA engine's peak power production. Consider that a 94 EJ22 non-turbo has a MAF sensor that tops out at almost ...

I’ve been busy lately, but here are a few more thoughts… IF the EA82T MAF’s signal ranges from 0 to 5V (I believe it does, still need to test). IF the EA82T MAF’s transfer function follows a curve “similar” to the EJ22T (big assumption, and much harder to test). Based on the 180cc rating for the EA ...

Here is vrg3's responce I've been searching the site for some info on the stock EJ22T system and you seem to be in the know. Quote: Do you know the voltage output range of the stock MAF? I don't understand what exactly you mean by this question... The signal can range from somewhere around 0 volts u...

EJ22T fuel control questions
This conversation started in PM, but it may be of interest to others so I’ll post it here. Do you know the voltage output range of the stock MAF? I understand it tops out at the 5V reference, but what would it be at idle? I’ve seen your graph, can we correlate output voltage to it? I also under stan...

Differences between the N/A and turbo 5MT Trans?
I’ve done a bit of searching but still have some questions. I know the turbo has a hydraulic through out and a stronger pressure plate/clutch disk. My proposed swap will put an EJ22T drive train into an older EA series car (RX), which has a cable clutch so it would be simpler to go with the N/A EJ t...

Over or understeer with a rear LSD? Well, both, it depends… On loose surfaces or with enough power to spin the wheels on pavement it will add oversteer due to the loss of traction. But up until that point both wheels will try and turn the same speed, i.e. a straight line. This understeer effect is v...

You may be on to something here… A hot wire anemometer output is actually relative to velocity (fixing temp and pressure), which for a given flow area is directly proportional to mass flow. The velocity profile in a round duct is not even across its diameter, the flow moves faster in the center, it ...

I think he means to have the timing belt a tooth or two off.... But it seems that doing that wouldn't allow for fine adjustments :? Removing them probably would work better since they come off on each side with like 3 bolts each, exposing the cam sprockets. Andrew Now I see, Given the 24/48 tooth c...

you can use these to prevent the cam from becomming retarded. Your language is quite offensive… today cams are not “retarded”, they are advance impaired. :P Andrew, thanks for the pics. Looks like it would be tough to reuse the stock EJ22 pulley’s outer tooth section with a new hub like I did with ...

Weight difference? The stock EA82 part is about 9oz, this steel prototype came in at 12oz, but the production unit will have an aluminum hub and should be at or below stock weight. I dont have a EJ car (yet) and I'm completely unfamiliar with the sprocket they use, so I can say what the adjustable ...

Recently prototyped one for the older EA82/EA82T engines (see pics), and am considering a small production run after some testing. In researching the potentia...
