Indeed, i think an AWIC would be in order -good idea. I'm thinking i should get some of those "proud parent" bumper stickers too. Maybe some of those convex mirrors that the old folks use. It is nice not grabbing the attention of the popo, but an added bonus is that all the ricers don't lo...

Here's the impregacy. It finally runs, or burbles rather, i love that subaru turbo burble. The goal is for it to be a very sleepy sleeper. Please post ideas, comments, pics...

I've found (in my admittedly limited experience) that the best tool to use in removing/installing spark plugs is the tool that comes with car. It's in the gray plastic tool kit pouch in your trunk. One end is a spark plug tool, the other end fits in a 19mm (I think) socket. It's the perfect length....

Praise the Lord it's running! I thank God first. A close second is Vikash. Thanks to your intimate knowledge of subaru cars -it runs! If any of you are considering an impreza swap -here are some problems i encountered: 1. The radiator is not a perfect fit. You'll need to fabricate new mounts and you...

Yes; it's the same deal with the cam angle sensor. one thing i was thinking about trying is checking the crank and cam angle sensors with a volt meter by putting the leads on the + and - wires coming off the sensors just to see if resistance changes as i rotate the crank by hand. Would this work? I...

you're right, the manual (the scaned 92 legacy one) tells which TPS terminals correspond with which ECU terminals, but it switches the colors black and white at the SMJ so i'm having trouble putting trust into the manual, it seems to be a miss-print becuase it's so illogical to switch the colors. I ...

thank you. I think that info will help narrow down my problem. can i expect that the cam angle sensors are the same too? I have been trying to do this engine swap into my car (an impregacy) and i used the technique that you guys sugggested. for setting up the engine management. Switching the compute...

It's a 93 ej18. for the ej18 the sensor has the connector right on it. but for the ej22t there's a lead comming off of the sensor and it connects at the back of the engine. I'm just using the harness from the ej18 so it has a shielded wire that can extent to the front of the ej22. Thanks

well i think i'm getting confused because the black and white colors switch at the smj. so if i know the ecu pin outs it still doesnt help me because the colors get jumbled up at the smj. So then i dont know which color to put where on the TPS itself. It seems like i have to guess which wires go whe...

TPS wiring

The wiring for this sensor is hard to figure out. The diagram for the EJ22t says ground is white, signal is black, and power is red. WHile the Ej18 diagram says that ground is Red/green, siganl is light green, and power is white. This of course is the wire color at the ecu. But i'm wondering how i s...

crank angle sensor

does anybody know if these are interchangable. When i was trying to remove it from my ej22t it broke. So i'm wondering if i can use the one from an EJ18. They look similar except for the connection is set up different.

Sheild wires necessary?

there are like four sensors on the legacy turbo that are sheilded by the ECU. Is it necessary to have their sheilds hooked up and working? I'm swapping an EJ22t into an impreza which has no sheilded sensor wires. So it would be difficult for me to add the sheilding to the impreza's wiring harness. I...

is the bore size of the ej20g smaller than that of the ej22's? If so, are the chambers on the ej22 heads a little big. Also do the pistons seem to match the head in terms of the quench pads? Subaru engines are a bit of a mystery to me because of their tendancy to detonate even with low low compressi...

well, so far the brute force approach has just been breaking my sockets. so i think it's a very good idea to get a half inch drive socket since they are designed to be stronger. Then maybe more length can be added to the breaker bar. Thanks guys.

rear flywheel bolts

well they aren't really flywheel bolts, but they hold a peice of sheet metal to the crankshaft on an AT 2.2t . I'm going to put the engine in a manual transmission car so i need to get them off. There are eight bolts there, and they are darn tight. Has anybody had this problem? I have broken two 14m...

being a snowbelt car plus all the exhaust heat really took it's toll on the oil pan i think, but the rest of the engine is good hopefully. Has anyone ever seen it this bad on their 91?

i'll probably just patch it up with duct tape :)

On a turbo engine 300 series stainless would last about as long as 1020 DOM mild steel would on a NA engine.
