Re: Changing valve cover gasket (engine in) and what oil to

Legacy or Impreza EJ20G? (Legacy has 2 bolts per coil, Impreza has 1) If it is a Legacy EJ20G they are known for ticking hydraulic lifters (HLAs) because they are buried deep in the head with tiny oil passages feeding them. An oil flush solution before the oil change helps keep the tiny passages cle...

Re: Pedal Assistance? This can't be right...

What is the donor car for that pedal set? When I did mine, the brake and clutch were one assembly. The clutch had a cross shaft that went to the gas pedal side of the assembly and then it pushed the clutch master cylinder from that side. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2008/2357313698_167c7dfaa9_b.jpg

Electrical connector chart

As I continue my research into installing the Automatic A/C system in an SS I started assembling a spreadsheet of all the connectors in the car. I have only added the instrument panel harness of the pre-facelift cars as of yet, but I plan on adding the other harnesses and post facelift cars too. It'...

Re: Shift lock system not working properly, i need help

There is no relay. There is a "shift lock control unit". I believe it is under the center console.

The wiring diagram (links on this board or google) will show what circuits it looks at. just check that all the inputs are working and troubleshooting should be fairly straight forward.

Re: Odd sound in engine bay in ACC mode? +Other issues

Regardless of what the actual item is, it sounds like something on the ACC circuit is backfeeding the IGN circuit. The most likely culprit is a improperly wire stereo, as that is really the only component that uses both circuits. I guess a faulty ignition switch might also do the same. At least some...

That is a Hitachi ECU. It will not work for a Robtune. A Robtune needs a JECS ECU.

Re: dankberries 1993 Legacy SS

I wasn't trying to say don't balance anything. By all means balance the crank, flywheel and even the crank pulley. However, if the rods, bearings, pistons, pins, and rings are all weight matched you don't need to go through the procedure of bolting up simulated weights and dynamically balance. https...

Re: dankberries 1993 Legacy SS

I've been interested in having the rotating assembly balanced for a while now. Care to share how much the rods and crank cost to have done? Because of the flat nature of the motor as long as the crank and flywheel are balanced, and the other parts are all weight matched, there is no need to rebalan...

Alternative/cheaper ECU patch/test harness

While browsing sround trying to troubleshoot my SVX A/C (of all things) I came across a Ford service tool that can be used as a ECU patch harness for our 4 plug ECUs (EJ22, EJ22t, EJ20G, etc). It is Ford/OTC part number T96P-12A650-B. It is meant as an interface between Mazda built Fords and the off...

According to the wiring diagrams, there is also a "main fan relay" on the interior fusebox.

Re: 06 subframes

Mechanically, virtually all the good stuff is a bolt in. A few details to work out sometimes, but it will all work (except the rear sway bar).

Electrically, nothing is a bolt in and it all will need adapting.

I'd be curious to see what you come up with. Replicating a 360 degree radiating filament with (tiny?) LEDs that can support any sort of reasonable current (or heat) seems a tall order.

Good luck.

Re: using a SVX transmission in 93 TLeg Wagon

I'm sure it's doable, however both SVX folks and Legacy guys move the opposite direction. The driveshaft is shorter on automatics. You should be able to follow the various auto>manual swap guides, just in reverse. The taller final drive ratio on the SVX trans caused many heat related failures in the...

My opinions. Assuming a gen 1 Legacy as the car. Budget. Phase 1 EJ20 DOHC turbo motor (pick one, all are basically the same) Legacy/Impreza V1/2 EJ20G intake manifold and throttlebody Turbo w/90 degree inlet or silicon 90 degree adapter sized to suit modest power goals. OEM from some Subaru or anot...

That is putting a lot of higher amperage wires inside the passenger compartment that Subaru intended to be nowhere near passengers or running through sheet metal penetrations that could be compromised in a crash. With the fuses between the battery and the firewall openings the circuit is still prote...

I can see a possible issue with the boost solenoid. The factory duty cycles are chosen based on the system they are in - which includes the tubing sizes and flow, the restrictor pill size as a percentage of the tubing flow, the spring pressure and diaphragm size of the wastegate actuator, and the fl...

For stock wiring harnesses use a stock wattage bulb. I personally prefer Sylvania Xtravision 9003. 9003 is the same as H4, fyi For upgraded harness, you can use a higher wattage bulb such as : http://www.rallylights.com/h4-12v-osram-hyper-bulb-not-legal-for-highway-use.html Also, on this page : http...

I need post facelift corners. If I need to buy a spare set of headlights to get them, I will. If you get to my name on the list, I'll take whatever set (w/corners) that other folks don't want. I already have adjusters that look like they can bolt to any of those sets. To others: this is by far the b...

If I were to do something along these lines, I might do a high compression EJ22 with worked over EJ20K heads and nice cams.

I bet you could come close to the S2000's 230HP with the right parts and tuning. But it likely wouldn't be using EG33 pistons or be cheap.

Re: Just curious, will Apexi Power FC ECU work in our cars?

I was. For years. I used it first to tune the stock EJ22T and then later used the same PFC to tune the EJ20G. Both motors used the factory wasted spark coil pack (2 channel). I also have the Datalogit unit and software. It was effective and fun. However, progress has stopped on the development of th...
