Re: Outback Sideskirts

I'm not sure how or where I'm going to attach these skirts yet. But to get an idea of what they look like I just held the skirt up with a piece of wood. Also, as you can see in the last photo, the skirts are about 1.75" too long; but that was expected. https://bn1302files.storage.live.com/y4mJd...

Outback Sideskirts

I've been reading that the '00-'04 Outback sideskirts kind-of fit BC/BF Legacies. Does anyone have a photo of them mounted? I'd like to see how they look. These skirts are cheap and super easy to find.

Re: Leak from oil filler neck...part number?

I found an o-ring from NAPA that fit great: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/ATMPB3005 Regarding the gasket that sandwiches where the neck bolts to the valve cover, I just used RTV silicone gasket maker. A previous post by cj91legss mentioned "Permatex" and that got me thinking that was the...

Re: Leak from oil filler neck...part number?

During my valve cover gasket replacement, I tore the gasket that sandwiches between the oil filler neck and the valve cover. Where the neck bolts to the valve cover. I'm sure I'm not the first to do this. What did you guys replace it with? It seems like a very specific part that I can't just buy at ...

Re: How to install new springs and struts

They must be installed correctly then since I can fit a finger between the body and the lower spring perch. I assume that's where the assembly would likely rub.

Re: How to install new springs and struts

Honestly, I did not follow the angle of the mount related to the angle of the car mount location. I purely followed the "OUT" markings as my guide. Whether that's right or wrong, I don't know. What gives me comfort though is that the upper spring perch has point (as seen in a previous pic)...

Re: How to install new springs and struts

Here are photos of the driver's side rear top mount rotated 360 degrees. For some reason this one was especially difficult to bolt in. https://bn1302files.storage.live.com/y4mDPnwepmSlbj0aZQvt3Vzw00b-7TCiZdQXnIeNqI8PvTal945R_Bh236gqyi8AM8wP7sWQR_OGhCqlCRXD8soCHkcBwqlwukJxo4JHhf77ww-r193gXvtBqN_X-CDp...

Re: How to install new springs and struts

I haven't removed the other rear strut assembly yet to check the mount orientation. When I do, I'll take some additional photos of the rear top mount. From what I recall, the rubber part that interfaces with the body of the car (seen top down in my photos) has a slope to it (second to last photo). T...

Re: How to install new springs and struts

After wire-brushing away a lot of rust and dirt, I found the "OUT" mark. https://bn1302files.storage.live.com/y4mgiDfinNxD2lEcf_-lGv1TbjcXIK52zDRi-LDE-x7nwDJq1Nyh6NAhnkcGreiyjZtl5cDYagwDt2rHEzEGguC-zpDPMJgjugCim6EpJ88LuhHLi9ZuxWsUmP9KLnUQPlaYHY1HwR1pmNJRw3eWIeESE9pVHGgfg0Py27DjAxX3a54fTL_A...

Re: How to install new springs and struts

GR-2s were put in about 15 years ago, but then about 7 years ago a buddy of mine and I put in lowering springs. I honestly can't recall if we paid any attention to the top mount orientation. It is entirely possible that we did not. From what I can tell, the top mounts do in-fact have a design to the...

Re: How to install new springs and struts

Resurrecting this oldie, but goodie... I'm installing new struts right now, but one thing this thread didn't seem to cover was orientation of the top strut mounts (in case you didn't mark it or some other circumstance). In my case, I pulled the driver-side rear strut assembly out and noted the mount...

Re: GD/GG Impreza (WRX/STi) springs on BC/BF/BJ cars: UPDATED

I'm bringing this thread back to life! I read through the OP a few times and I don't see much about the front springs. Well here's the situation: About seven years ago I purchased some "02-03 WRX lowering springs" for my 93 FWD. When I received them, the front springs were tapered. They di...

Re: Overall Wheel Diameter Effect on AWD

I've done some digging while waiting for a reply...

Very good tire comparison tool: https://tiresize.com/comparison/

This site, and other places I've read, say that +/- 3% of OEM diameter is acceptable.

Overall Wheel Diameter Effect on AWD

I'm looking into buying studless snow tires for my wife's 2010 Tribeca. Stock tire size: 255/55 R18 Snow tire size: 235/55 R18 (I cant get these for an insanely good price) Overall diameter change: 0.8" How will this change affect her car? I'll also be buying a fifth one of these as her spare d...

Re: It's 2019 now, what are my FWD strut options?

I certainly noticed a difference when I first installed my GR2s, but then again, my original struts were probably pretty worn by then.

You are right Josh.

Per KYB: "The Excel-G and GR-2 are identical, except for the product name and paint color."

It's 2019 now, what are my FWD strut options?

I've been out of the loop for a number of years now, and it's time to replace my old worn out GR2s. I wanted to just put new GR2s in, but it looks like they're not manufactured anymore. What are these Excel-G struts? KYB suggests them as OEM replacement, but I want sports car style dampening, not OE...

Fixed!!

This afternoon I decided to put the car back together and see if it would start. I put the sensors back in and put back together what I had dismantled. I pulled the negative battery cable again while putting things back together with the idea of resetting the ECU. I didn't end up testing the ignitor...

Sorry to hear your Legacy is(was) stuck at a Starbucks. I guess I'm lucky mine at least made it home.

When I get some time, I'm going to check out the ignitor. The doc that biggreen96 posted has some steps for testing the ignitor. I'll update when I get a chance to test it.

From the manual it looks like anything above 100mV is ok. So I guess the sensors are fine. Now I'm stumped.

Maybe the ignitor? That's about the last thing in the ignition system besides the ECU.

Thanks again for the PDF!

UPDATE

Ok, I've tested both the crank and cam sensors for resistance and output voltage:

Crank: 1.1k Ohms and ~500mV AC output with engine turn over.

Cam: 1.5k Ohms and ~250mV AC output with engine turn over.

Does anyone have any specs on these sensors?? I can't find anything.

I pulled the crank sensor last night and what's interesting is that the third wire from the connector is terminated and non-functional. It is just shrink wrapped to the side of the other wires. I checked to see if it went to ground, but it doesn't. If you look at the sensor itself there is only two ...
