9.99 boost/vacuum gauge for those running stock boost
Harbor Freight sells a "Fuel Pump and Vacuum Tester" that is on sale for $9.99 right now. It reads from 30 inches of mercury vacuum and up to 10psi. I mounted mine to the blank spot meant for the air suspension switch and its perfect other than not having a backlight http://i41.tinypic.com...

Gear ratios of phase 1 5mt 4.11fd 2.5rs transmission
I have a "rare" transmission and I am curious about it's ratios. It is from a 98RS which had a phase 1 5mt and EJ25D. (The 99 got ej251 and phase 2 5mt). I'd like confirmation of its gear ratios. It's likely to be the same as the five speeds from the 96-98 GT or the 98 Forester (which also...

Re: deadhp1's 94 lifted n/a wagon ej253 swap
I may have missed it but which transmission are you using? If you don't want to convert to male axles I have an extra 3.9 female axle LSD I could sell the carrier out of. (its the carrier that decides the axle type and has the LSD) If it helps I swapped an EJ25D into my other first gen legacy and ra...

Re: Frankenbeater Version 4. Want to help me?
Here is the boost gauge. I attached it to the air suspension blank with adhesive velcro. Its a perfect location since it's easy to read and doesn't block any other gauges or climate controls Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R8P6Js0gKc http://i41.tinypic.com/148nifk.jpg I rebalanced and rebalanc...

Legacy777 I wasn't sure if you were referring to me but I did try swapping out all three of the items on the strut tower with used ones I got from the junk yard a while back (map sensor, switching solenoid and bcs) For my personal situation switching to 91 octane versus 89 seemed to make it run in h...

Re: High Idle trouble (91 5mt turbo sedan)
I was able to improve the idle. First I adjusted the TPS to be connected at .7 and open at .8 (I didn't have a .9mm feeler). Secondly I had a throttle body from my other car which had not been molested and I measured the depth of the adjustment screw on top. I used an electronic caliper with a depth...

Re: High Idle trouble (91 5mt turbo sedan)
Adjusting the TPS is next on my list. Found these scans but is one for turbo and one for NA? I wonder since one of them focuses on connector b56 while the other focuses on b58 with seemingly the same steps. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/FSM_Scans/TPS_testing1.jpg http://w...

Re: only 5 lbs of boost now whats causing it edit code 41
I am having a similar problem. No codes are stored and no check engine light. Sometimes it will boost 8+psi but about 80% of the time it maxes out at 5psi. I've replaced a lot of the rubber lines (pcv and vacuum) and I don't believe there are any leaks. I used the diagram here http://www.surrealmira...

Installed a boost gauge today. 9.99 from Harbor freight and it measures up to 10psi. Found that the rear pads were down to 1mm so I replaced them with some nearly new ones I had left over. Replaced the cracked drivers side tail light. Didn't realize these were held in with silicone like material I'm...

Re: Frankenbeater Version 4. Want to help me?
I was able to get the car for 800. The check engine light was on and if you used more than 10% throttle it would cut all power. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make it home over the mountains. http://i43.tinypic.com/2d6kvgg.jpg The previous owners decided to use 2-3 containers of silicone caulki...

Frankenbeater Version 4. Want to help me?
My 91 Legacy was finally at a point that I was happy with no more modifications necessary. It had a full 2.5 liter engine and 4.44 final drive. All it needed were some simple items like new front seats, a new rear tail light and to fix a short in the sunroof. Then this happened- http://i43.tinypic.co...

Did you squeeze the gasket legacy777? I think it might be thinner when compressed. It supposedly matches the DOHC 2.5 gasket thickness which i measured in post 241 of this thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... 27&page=10

Re: Electronic Oil Pressure Gauge, opinions?
The remote oil pressure thing is just a piece of high pressure hose with a male npt on one side and female on the other. If you dont get the remote sensor mount I had an idea for a cheap method. Get a large hose clamp (or many small ones daisy chained) and have it around the sensor and around a near...
