Re: 2.2 to 2.5 swap in "97 Legacy

Which 2.5 liter engine? Depending on what you get it can be really easy or sorta easy lol My old build thread might help http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=42516 I am also considering putting the 2.2 heads on the 2.5 block, but if I can put this car back on the road for free that'...

Re: 4eat trans messed up, help?

I had a very similar failure on my 95. It also had wouldnt roll in reverse and if you put it in drive it felt as if something was dragging. Dont waste your time trying to fix it. Its toast. Grab a used one from the junkyard and move on.

Why would they want to modify the map signal and not the maf? Perhaps it was some way of changing boost cut?

Re: My 2nd split wall.....

I fully agree with 93forestpearl's previous post. I also think that douglas vincent knows what he is doing. Who knows, this 2.5 block may have been damaged previously (overheating?) or had a manufacturing flaw. http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=43071 shows just about 280hptq. At ...

Re: Second Gen Speedometer

Then I am pretty sure the TCU takes the signal from the speed sensors and then outputs a signal thats the same as a five speed would output on its own. If you didn't change anything and put a TCU from a 96 outback I bet your speedo would show 9% higher speed

Re: Can I still post here? - 98 2.5GT

Might be faster to leave the engine in place (supported with a 2x4 across the strut towers) and drop the cross member so you don't have to unhook shit or drain the coolant.

Re: Second Gen Speedometer

Auto or manual?
From what I know the manual transmission is a direct connection from the speed sensor to the dash while for an auto its through the TCU to the dash. Speedometer adjustment comes from the gear inside the transmission which drives the head and from the TCU generating the right signal.

If you are too restrictive with the terms there are some missed items. I suggest searching the following legacy (Frontscheinwerfer, Scheinwerfer, Stirnleuchte, Vorderlicht) and then sort through the results manually. I found the following http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360243...

Re: Electronic Oil Pressure Gauge, opinions?

Whatever you choose REMOTELY MOUNT THE SENDING UNIT. When attached directly to the block it will vibrate like mad at certain frequencies(rpm) causing inaccurate readings and eventually the sender to fail. If you watch one under a timing light you can see that its moving alot more than it should. I p...

I don't know if that is the exact right tank. All three of the first gen Legacy Ive owned had a metal bracket to attach the tank to the radiator and the auction looks to be all plastic. I like the lid of the tank shown in that ebay auction though, later lids were solid (no drain tube). If the coolan...

Subaru also designed the closed deck for 400 hp for rally, which would be extended periods of abuse. A few years later, the rules were restricted to 300 hp. Don't know if it was due to the lesser requirement or a case of overengineering until they found out that extreme wasn't necessary, but either...

Re: auto to 6spd swap? any different than 5spd?

Wiring in an old five speed is the same as wiring in the 04 through 07 six speed. The DCCD has its own connector and is dealt with however you like, including leaving it unhooked. The big difference to making it work is getting the right support parts like axle stubs, matched clutch setup (can be a ...

Subaru stopped in 95 because closed deck wasnt needed. Most Hondas ive seen use open deck blocks until you reach higher than 2.5 times the original power level.

You must be looking in the wrong places. I have helped two people in the last year get WRX and finding them in perfect shape for 8k is easy, and the price is dropping.
