Re: Fuel cut after 25% throttle??

As far as a replacement knock sensor goes, personally I'd stay away from ones that aren't marked with the factory markings. I installed a Standard Motor Parts one on my wagon a little over a year ago. Recently it went back to the lack of power thing it was doing before. No codes. Pulled the sensor a...

Guess I should have added, pull the oil pan and rocker covers. That will pretty much tell you the story on how it was taken care of.

Re: EJ22 NA rebuild?

If the engine has under 300k on it, just reseal everything on the outside, drop it in and go. The ej22 is a tank.

But if you're doing it to learn, than by all means go for it. Just take your time and do it right, no shortcuts.

Reporting back. Car is still running great. Haven't had time to switch things over individually to pinpoint the exact cause though. Fuel economy still sucks.

Re: Oil pan gasket - replace without pulling engine?

Yes, it's not that bad. Remove the forward bolt on the pitch stop mount. Remove each nut and washer from motor mounts. Jack the motor up with a block of wood on the oil pan. Insert a 1"x1" something between the mounts and cradle. It will still be tight coming out but it's not that bad. Whe...

Re: Valve adjustment of a 2.5 in 1st gen legacy

Subaru has a special tool that allows the shims on the solid lifter ej25d's to be removed without taking off the cams, but it's still a pain in the ass.

Re: Another driveline vibration thread (long)

Well, I feel embarrassed. It was the nearly new Goodyear tires. I recently picked up an almost identical car as mine, except it's a sedan, with decent bridgestone tires on it. I figured 'What the hell, what have I got to lose' so i switched sets, and the vibration is completely gone. Despite having ...

Re: Low boost and hissing noise at Idle/low rpms

Do what Josh said, but don't limit vacuum leaks to just hoses. My 93 SS had a leaking injector seal on cylinder 4. Not the seal to the fuel rail, but the bigger one that seals the bottom of the injector to the manifold. Also check around the intake manifold gaskets

I can't hear the noise that well on my phone, but possibly the IAC valve? A mechanics stethoscope will probably be your best friend in this case.

Re: Diagnosis help?

Check the 3 basics. Air, fuel, and ignition. My wagon did something similar and it turned out to be burnt wires on the fuel pump connector. It did it without warning but lucky for me it was in my driveway one morning.

Possible cure for 22t hesitation/stumble/lack of power

Long story short, I have a 93 wagon which is mostly stock except for a Cobb DP and stock STI catback. It's had a very noticeable lack of power which felt ignition-timing related to me. Every once in a great while I'll get a miss so bad it pops though the intake. I have an SSM2, so I looked at MAP, i...

Re: Aloha,OR - WTB: Robtune 550 Injectors

Just fyi, make sure they have been tested before you install them, if you get used ones. I worked at the dealer when these were new and they had a very high failure rate. We kept them in stock we saw them fail so often. Now I'm independent and I'll still see a bad one every now and then. When I did ...

The pics aren't working for me but are you absolutely sure the pulley isn't on backwards? I just bought a legacy ss and i noticed it had the same issue. Flipped the pulley around and all is well.

Re: Fuel rails for 550 robtune?

Next time I see the car I'll try to get part numbers off them. I could be wrong. I just want to get the info out there if there are other options because around my part of the country ej25's are way more common in the salvage yards.

Re: Differences between NA / Turbo radiator (beside filler c

Here's my story for informational purposes. I have a 95 Impreza with an EJ22t swap done by me in 2003. I installed the correct legacy turbo radiator, and it fit like crap. It was too big so I angled it back slightly at the bottom which also made the fans come within about a quater inch of the front ...

Re: Another driveline vibration thread (long)

Well, I feel kind of stupid. Ever since I bought the car 20k miles ago, its also had a shudder and rattle from take off when making a sharp turn. Over the last week it seemed to get a lot more pronounced. I raised it up and grabbed the carrier bearing and it was flopping up and down. The bottom half...

Re: aluminum coolant expansion tank?

Sorry, I haven't had a chance yet. Our shop has been swamped pretty much all summer. We've been building broken ej255/7s all summer on top of all the regular stuff. The more I look at it I would like to come up with a solution with a more modern tank as well. We have a bunch of ej20k and every versi...

I haven't. We've got 6 ej205/255s in line that need engine rebuilds on top of our normal work. Our own cars are always the last ones to get worked on it seems!

Re: Another driveline vibration thread (long)

I'm not totally sure yet. I did take off the rear stabilizer bar during all this due to a different issue and the intensity of the vibration has dropped significantly. The next step I think is to swap the wheels and tires off my Impreza since it drives so damn smoothly. The tires on the legacy are y...

Re: Anyone else have this problem? 4EAT disengages at stops.

I would check line pressure before throwing any parts at it. Also pull the pan to inspect the screen for clutch material and physical condition. I just had one that had a broken neck where it goes in to the pump suction hole. It was a cheap chinese screen. In my past experience at a transmission sho...

Sorry I didn't follow up on this. The ea82t part number is the one you want. I bought two from Subaru since I have two ej22t's and an ea82t. I also have an ITM gasket kit for the ea that came with one. The OE and ITM gaskets are paper and nearly identical.

Another driveline vibration thread (long)

I'm starting this thread as mostly an informational post regarding a vibration starting around 60mph and peaking at 65, then tapering a bit the faster it goes. And hopefully a good outcome without throwing a bunch of unnecessary parts at it. Here's my history with the car- I was working for a transm...
