Wrong.

Unless it's a Phase 2 crank, the rod journals are 4mm difference in diameter from Phase 1 - Phase 2.

1990 Legacy (motor-turbo-etc) :)

Well, after some months of getting parts together the Legacy runs again. The bad part is that this car was supposed to be the "back-up" to my DD WRX. Well, that didn't last long as I through on turbo parts and committed to low boost  Within three weeks it destroyed a headgasket with ...

Considering the two pumps run different relief pressures, I don't see this being that big of a discovery. Obviously not a huge discovery, but I thought the differenece was with the shimming which is done from the factory. Just an observation man. I've built 5 Subaru motors in the past three years n...

Oil pump observations (sorry no photos)

So after building a motor for the Legacy, I noticed some differences between oil pump springs. The motor I started with was a 2003 Forester 2.5L block, crank, and oil pump with low, low miles. I was going to shim under the spring in the Forester oil pump and decided to place it next to a WRX oil pum...

I'll even add a second nice ending. The bastard motor started just a moment ago! :-D I still need to get the exhaust fitted to the new downpipe, which I'll get done tomorrow.

Okay problem fixed. I thought for sure the shaft had messed up something inside the trans but it appears to be fine. When I pulled the motor originally and didn't unbolt the TC first it must have been at such an angle that it grabbed the turbine shaft and pulled it out.

hocrest, Yeah I replaced the seal too. But were you following what I was saying the problem is? The turbine shaft, which apparently attaches internally in the transmission is the problem. The small shaft itself is literally getting hung up on a point inside the trans and won't go in any further. I'm...

Found a PDF online. The shaft in question is called the "turbine shaft". I can not tell what it actually slides into though.

AT trans problem 'after' motor pulled - now won't reinstall.

When I pulled the motor out I did not bother to pull the TC (torque converter) off the flexplate. Yes I read about the hollow guide tube and C-clip. It was left in there, which I got out and are now attached to the TC. I thought, "great, now it will go all the way in". However, it would no...

it will not go in by just turning it trust me! I messed with this for days literally. Pull the engine and pull the TC off and pull the shaft out and make sure you find the clip, its in the links to the FSM's. Assemble the pump shaft to the TC with the clip and then slide the shaft and TC back into ...

WTB: Bracket (holds turbo to head)

Anybody have a bracket they want to get rid of (it's the one that mounts to the turbine housing/up-pipe to the back of the cylinder head)? I hear most of them are in pretty bad condition but let me know what you got. I'm in NC.

Thats a heck of a deal, but the STi rods are to short for my build, I need the 5.181 length from the N/A EJ25. Gary To the best of my knowledge, the only long rod like that was for the phase 1 2.5L. The journal sizes are different than the crank that you have. The later 2.5L rods (aka phase 2) had ...

So adding displacement isn't worth it? I'm getting the impression that the only place worth spending you money on these motors to produce more horsepower is on the turbo and fuel system. Like was said above, boring over size won't do much for you. On a street car, this is generally done to re-use t...

Did I miss that part  Is that the STi piston? If so, that's a pretty bad one. Hell, I wouldn't trust cast pistons (regardless of being high-silicone) to high heat, high power situations. Sure, some folks are able to ring out 450whp out of them and maybe more, but they ALL fail at some point. ...

If it's in the budget, why not get another set of pistons made? Wiseco (and probably most other pistons mfgs) can make you a set to your specs. Have the block decked and be done with it. Chose your gasket size from Cometic and all is good. Gaskets are about $90 for the set and a complete set of pist...

Careful with those STi cast pistons man. A little det and they'll be done quickly. As far as your build, I admire what you've done. Thinking out of the box is the way I do it ;) On my current motor (in my WRX), I actually reverted backwards from a EJ257 block to a EJ25x 'phase 1' Well, I expec...

EJ205 and newer cams won't fit. The WRX cams are larger diameter.

777,

I think once I bump up the line pressure it'll come back to life. I work/tune on a Mustang dyno so I may have a before and after of the results. I'm just not there full time so getting the car on there (and the owner not laughing at me) is a task.

If anybody cares the 1993 NA redtop injectors and rails were swapped in place of the stock 90/91 NA beige injectors and rails. Swapping the rails was a direct fit. The redtop injectors resistance is 10.8 vs the 11.7 beige ones (and of course the screwed up one that was reading 21.x). Idle is now per...

tmarcel, how much power does your REX put down? Sound slike a beast! Not possible to say right now. It's never been run on the new build. The last one I didn't have any numbers on it. Well the injector was in fact bad. I checked the resistance and it reads 21.4, while the others all read about 11.7-11.8 (I checked this twice to be certain). That injector is nearly twice what the others read. I'm going to pick up a set of red top ones from a 93/94 model. Hopefully they're the same...
