If you throw on an exhaust like that it will over boost. The solenoid has a duty cycle programmed for it in the map which is based around the stock, restrictive exahust. Two actions can be made to fix it: 1.) ECU remap or 2.) standalone boost control. The CEL 99.9% likely happening due to the overbo...

Tmarcel, This isn't nasioc! Look at the post count of the people you are arguing with. My point is that most of us here know each other and don't really care to engage in the chest pounding mental masturbation that you see elsewhere. Where this is headed is completely irrelevant to the op's inquiry...

Not sure what guys aren't getting about "anything is possble"? Please don't read anything else into my post other than what I said. With deep pockets, yes most anything is possble including making 300HP on a 2.2L Subaru motor. Keep in mind Formula 1 racing - those cars make 720hp with only...

No amount of money will break the laws of physics. There is only some much oxygen in the atmosphere... therefore only so much power that can be generated from burning that oxygen in a given volume. You need more displacement to get more horsepower (without forcing induction). Given current technolo...

...whomever started that myth should be kicked in the grill. ...The EJ205 WRX block is open deck, Mainly, as far as turbocharging goes...you need to make sure that you have friendly air/fuel ratios on boost (no more than 12.5:1) and that the incoming air stays cool enough (read: intercooler). Mine was an NA ('90 model) with WRX/STi turbo parts to make the transition. It pushed a HG after a few weeks running only wastegate spring pressure on a TD04 (about 6psi). The motor did have 190k miles on the clock  I used an SAFC to dial in the fuel. Now it has a 2.5L (STi pistons/rods) bottom...

While the motor may blow up, it still did it! Nah, the motor wont blow.......cross fingers.... You guys might w...

BTW, I forgot to mention how I usually work the seal in. I found a huge PVC 'end cap' at Home Depot that workes perfectly. It covers the entire end of the crank and sits right on top of the seal face. However, the motor that I built the other day I couldn't find it. I ended up using a 14mm box wrenc...

check compression. ^^^Yep, and if compression checks out (don't worry about the actually number coming from the gauge, rather check to see if the numbers are all fairly close), then nect check your connectors with a multimeter. You can check both conectors and even the injectors themselves. On my L...

I bet this has happened to a lot of folks (some I know of and others I've heard about). I've never made the mistake myself because I asked a LOT of questions on the first motor I built. Since then I always knew to go just below flush of the deck area. Don't feel bad though as I've made my own share ...

How about a stealth-back? That's what I'm running and sounds about like stock WRX/STi (just a 'tad' louder). Catless, 3.00" DP and MP to WRX axleback. Motor is a 2.5 w/VF39. BTW, the larger the turbine diameter and flow the louder it will be. Edit: You're still going to experience boost creep u...

Ummmm.....3.00" catless DP/MP to WRX axleback and sounds just about like a factory WRX LOL! Don't believe everything you hear about pipe diameter making it louder. The motor is 2.5L with VF39 turbo so go figure. Honestly, it's in the muffler/silencers ability to muffle the sound.

skid,

How about a compression test? That would be my next move. With the location of the spark plugs on the SOHC heads, it's really easy to do. Should take you about 10-15min to do all four.

You can follow the KISs (keep it simply) rule. If you have the resources to find another block or build your own, just get a set of Wiseco pistons, STi rods, ACL bearings (Race series if you want to do it right), and Cometic head gaskets. That can all be had for $600-800 and will support pretty much...

Speaking from a very recent EJ22 (NA) with WRX bits swapped in (manifold, turbo, etc etc) it ran decently with only a SAFC. The kicker is that it had nearly 200k on the motor. Within 4 weeks it blew a headgasket, overheated everytime it got into boost, and gulped oil out the exhaust (literally). I'm...
